Chapter 109 - The real culprit

"I need to speak with you," I said sharply the moment I threw open the door to Xander's study.

Both Xander and Alan looked up, startled by my abrupt entrance. For a fleeting second, I caught the hopeful spark in Xander's expression and nearly rolled my eyes. If he thought this was going to be anything like the other night, he was sorely mistaken.

"Excuse us," Xander ordered calmly. Alan bowed and slipped out without a word, closing the door behind him.

When we were alone, Xander leaned back in his chair, regarding me with that intense, unreadable gaze of his. "So," he said slowly, "what brings you here?" His voice was deceptively casual, but there was a faint heat behind his eyes.

I shifted uneasily, shrinking back against the door, keeping as much distance between us as possible. Moon stirred restlessly in my head, picking up on my tension. For what I needed to do next, I required a clear head, and having Xander close enough to touch was dangerous.
