I smelled her sweet scent even before I heard her knock on the door. Every muscle in me tightened as her scent filled the room when she stepped inside.
Emma lingered in the doorway, her hand resting on the doorknob. She looked like she was ready to bolt at any minute.
"Alan said you wanted to see me," she said carefully, her eyes searching my face.
"Why?"
I should have had an excuse ready, but the truth was, I hadn't asked her here for anything important. I just wanted to see her, to be with her.
Halo stirred restlessly inside me, urging me closer. And I-goddess help me- I couldn't fight him anymore. I crossed the distance between us in four long strides.
Emma's eyes widened and a startled sound escaped her lips as I pulled her into me. Her body stiffened in my arms, but the heat of her pressed against me anyway.
When my arms locked tighter around her, I heard her breath hitch. She was as affected by my closeness as I was by hers.
