Amendiel's attention is buried in the maps and documents he's ignored for far too long. He thinks of ways to strengthen their stronghold when Sanaya enters his command chamber without warning.
"You can't keep caging her from going outside. Even the baby needs some fresh air!"
Keeping Faelyn inside is for her own good and safety. Amendiel doubts she would welcome all the current changes. They've traveled far from the conquered fae lands to reach the dragon kingdom, deep in the mountain peaks where his people have ruled for centuries.
He gives Sanaya a dismissive look, but she doesn't move. Her eyes glare daggers at him.
"Since you've chosen to accept her, can you treat her better? Do you understand what she's going through? She lost her mother, and even this morning, she tried to… to…" Sanaya stops, blinking fast as she realizes she nearly exposed Faelyn.
She curses herself silently for she tends to ramble uncontrollably whenever she is upset.
