Chapter 4 - A DUSTY OLD CROW'S LUCK

Somewhere in an abandoned partway, Qrow Branwen was casually strolling at a leisure pace, enjoying the scenery around him. Beside him was a young girl with short brown hair and Amber eyes. She was looking around her with a nervous expression

"Seriously Amber, could you stop? Cause I'm pretty sure you're scaring the little animals with that look f yours." Qrow demanded, getting tired of her constant look outs after a while. The girl, known as Amber, looked down in embarrassment. "I'm sorry Mr Branwen. It's just that, it's my first mission without my team. So I can't help but feel scared should something wrong happen and I can't do anything about it." She responded.

He looked at her for a while before chuckling. "I know what you mean. I was far worse than you on my first mission." He responded. "Really?" She asked in ciriousity. He chuckled before admitting "I didn't even dare to sleep for the entire mission since I was afraid something bad will happen. Especially knowing my bad luck that keep popping up every now and then" he mumbled the last part.

"So what happened?"

"Turns out it was easier than I expected. Made me look like an idiot for worrying over nothing."

"Oh!" She realized the similarities, looking down in embarrassment, again. However, he wasn't done. "What I mean is that, though you don't have to expect everything going your way, you shouldn't think of the worse things either. Just relax and keep a clear mind. And I'm sure you'll do just fine." He told her. "Thank you Mr Branwen." She told him, smiling. "No problem kiddo." He responded.

Suddenly, they heard a voice behind them "I wouldn't give her a fake assurance if I were you.".

Both of them turned around to see two people facing them. The first was a black haired boy wearing a green tracksuit with black sides.

The second was emerald haired girl wearing a short sleeveless dress with an exposed belly and a brown trouser with the middle being with white.

"What do you want?" Qrow asked. "Isn't it obvious?" The boy asked while his partner brought out two daggers from behind her back "We're here to kill you two.".

Qrow brought out a large broadsword from behind his back while cursing his luck in a habit manner.

"Amber! No matter what happens, keep going and don't get involved!" He ordered before dashing towards them.

"The legendary Qrow Branwen, as I live and breathe. I gotta say, it's an honor to finally kill you." The boy said before launching for a roundhouse kick. Qrow blocked the kick with the flat side of his sword before pushing him to make a side swing, in which the boy responded by backflipping away. Sensing his instinct go haywire, Qrow sidestepped just in time to dodge an attack from the girl who was behind him and was aiming for his heart. "Damn! I almost got him!" The girl exclaimed in frustration. Qrow could only curse at his constant bad luck as he ready his stance while facing the duo who rushed at him.

However, after a while, he realized there was something wrong. Their patterns were repeatedly and too predictable, but their defenses were pretty excellent. It was almost as if... 'OH CRAP!' he mentally screamed as he just realized what was going on. As soon as he dodged the girl's thrust, he sent a strong back kick to her back, one strong enough to knock her out. As soon as the boy went for a kick, Qrow caught his leg, and sent him over his shoulder to slamm his opponent on the ground, hard. Seeing the boy's covered with a shattered aura on him, he started running to Amber, hoping he wasn't too late.

Meanwhile, Amber was running as fast as she could to the nearest village. It wasn't because she was afraid something bad might happen to Qrow, since she knew that he could take care of himself, but the way they said they would kill him gave her a feeling something bad might happen. Even if she was wrong, she wasn't going to take that risk, so her best option was to find help.

Suddenly, she felt a sharp pain on her left thigh, making her stumble and roll alongside the road. She sat up with a groan and upon inspection, saw an arrow being dug into her thigh. She pulled it out and noticed the tip was covered with a strange black substance mixed with blood.

"So this is the fall maiden? How disappointing." She looked up to see a short ravenete with a eye patch on her left eye.

Amber jumped back to dodge a swing while gaining some distance, glad that the arrow didn't hit anything vital though wondering if that black substance was poisoned. She wanted to buy some time till Qrow arrived but doubted she'll live long enough as she kept dodging arrows upon arrows. Courtesy of the woman who switch back to archery. She sidestepped to dodge another arrow but to her surprise, it exploded right in front of her face with a blast powerful enough to knock down a tree.

Amber was sent rolling further away from the blast with the aura covering her being shattered. She then raised her head and wiped the blood on her face. 'This is bad. She'll easily kill me If I keep on like this. I'm sorry Mr Branwen, but I have to use it' she thought to herself as she saw her attacker approaching calmly while wielding two Cutlass who asked her "Is that the best you can do? Pathetic.". Amber just spit some blood from her mouth before getting up on one knee while still looking at the ground. Unknown to them, the sky started becoming dark and cloudy, showing signs of an upcoming thunderstorm. "Why the early comment?" She asked before finally looking at the assassin, her eyes surprisingly covered with fire, ",I'm just starting to get serious.".

Amber suddenly started to fly while multiple lightning were being discharged from clouds at random places.

"YOU WANTED TO FACE A MAIDEN? YOU GOT YOUR DEATH WISH!" Amber screamed before pointing out her arms to her opponent. Suddenly, almost every lightning bolt rushed to the assassin who dodged them with some difficulty. Amber summoned a staff, then shooted a continuos bolt of lightning at the assassin, who blocked it with her Cutlass.

Though the clash was a stalemate, the assassin knew she had no chance against the maiden. As not only was the strain too much on her but the aura sorounding her was gradually getting weaker. A sign showing that she was getting overwhelmed.

Just when the Victor seems to be known, Amber started feeling weak. She lost the grip of the staff and fell down with a thud. She tried to get up but didn't have the strength to do so. It as if her life force was leaving her. "Poison!" She realized when she remembered the substance on the arrow.

"Not poison actually," she looked up to see the assassin casually approaching unarmed "it's more like link between souls. Except..." she raised her right hand, showing her index finger, which surprisingly was the same substance "... I'm the one in control. Which means I can have the power you possess, even if it kill you."

Amber got even more frightened when she realized what was truly happening but couldn't do anything about it. "Why?" She asked, cryisng. Her assaulter just laughed before answering "Power of course. What else? People like you don't deserve this kind of power, so I'm putting it in the rightful hand, mine.". Suddenly, she started feeling some new energy rushing in her body, restoring her aura's strength in the process. "So this is what it feels like." She said to herself as she closed her eyes and started feeling the new change in her body.

"AMBER!" Said girl heard her name from the road she came from and when she looked there, saw Qrow running towards them. "Mr Branwen, I'm sorry. She is taking my power and it's killing me. Run! Get out of here while you still can. Please." She warned him. Only after he heard what she said did he stopped and finally putted his attention on the newcomer.

"Who are you and what have you done to Amber?" He cautiously asked while going into a fighting stance. Suddenly, fire started forming on her hands before she turned to face him, surprising him with a flame covering her left eye.

"Unfortunately for you, neither of those questions will be answered, because you are already dead." She said.

Without warning, the assassin fired a continuous stream of flames at Qrow, who covered himself with aura to shield himself as he didn't have time to dodge. After a while, the assault stopped, but Qrow ended up having a shattered aura and numerous scorch marks. A sign that he is unable to keep on fighting. Satisfied with herself, the assassin formed a giant fireball above her while looking at her down opponent. "Any last words?" She asked.

Qrow, who was on one knee, looked at her with a smile, though his expression shows that he can pass out at any moment, before answering "Just one of advice, karma is a bitch.".

The assassin gave an understanding nod, then added one more thing "Be a gentleman and say hi to your silver eyed friend for me." Before launching the fireball at him.

"NNNNOOOOOOOO!" was the only thing she could said as she helplessly watch the projectile heading towards him while Qrow could only close his eyes and smile as he accepted his fate... and luck. 'Tai, kids, sorry but I have to leave you three like how Sum did. I just wish for once, my luck will work on my favor.'. Unknown to them all, a pair of gloved hands were reaching out to him. But before anyone could notice that,...... 'BOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMM!' the entire area exploded.
