I found myself a quiet corner at the Oceanion feast, away from the curious glances and whispered conversations. The ballroom was extravagant, with crystal chandeliers casting a warm glow over the sea of wealthy and powerful guests. Coming here was a mistake, but I had no choice.

Nathaniel was across the room, engaged in animated conversation with business associates. Despite the distance between us, I could feel his gaze occasionally finding me. The weight of his attention was both unsettling and oddly reassuring.

From my vantage point, I observed the intricate dance of power and politics. Everyone had an agenda—including my husband. The thought still felt foreign. My husband. A man I barely knew, yet was now irrevocably tied to.

"Mrs. Ricardo."

I turned to find Miles Finch approaching, a flute of champagne in hand. His suit was impeccable, but the tightness around his eyes betrayed his stress.

"Mr. Finch," I acknowledged with a slight nod. "Enjoying the evening?"
