Chapter 6 - The Chase.

She stares down at my outstretched hand and hesitates.

"I have a job by midnight today, would you be good enough to come?" I ask her.

I can see it in her eyes that she wants to come. She wants to join me. She wants to be my partner.

"I have only one condition." She says.

"Spill it". I say.

"You'll steal me all the gem stones in the cult house". She says.

I consider it for a moment. It is a very risky job. If I have her on board, it would be a breeze.

"We'll steal it together". I say firmly.

Her eyes widen.

"You know that I'm too weak".

"I'll buy you some gem stones for you to heal yourself". I say.

I quickly make a list in my head. One thing about being a top tier assasin is that you are rich, but you can't live extravagantly.

"Don't spend too much on me". She says.

To me, it's just business. Maybe, there are some feelings behind it that I refuse to acknowledge.

"Why have you never drained power from your wedding ring. It's a huge carat diamond, it should have plenty of power". I suddenly ask.

As expected, she is shocked by my question.

She looks down.

"It's a pretty ring. If I drain the power out of it, it would turn to dust". She says.

So she does not want to destroy the wedding ring I gave her? Does that mean that she has some feelings for me in her monstrous heart?

"It must mean something to you, then". I say.

She looks up sharply.

"I have never received a ring as beautiful as this as a symbol of affection. In my world, necromancers are demons. We don't receive any affection. My true form is most hideous now that I compare it to my human body". She says.

Hmm.

"Let's get you to bed so that you can rest". I say and pick her up in my arms.

She's as light as ever. I take her to the bed in the bunker and set her down. She just looks away, refusing to meet my gaze.

She's hurt. Between me and her, who should be more hurt? We may not love each other, but I had come to respect her and care for her deeply.

All I needed was a quiet wife who had no friends that would be there to help me with all my needs. She had not been able to cook or do house chores when I first met her. But now, she is even a better cook than me.

Everything makes sense now. Her weirdness, her lack of friends and family. I had known she was odd, but as an assasin, nothing odd is scary.

So she's a demon. I am wondering if I should divorce her. After all, all she wants is to go back to her own world. She does not like it here.

For some odd reason, I don't want her to go to her own world. I want her to stay here with me and continue being my wife.

If I can make her like my world, I would be able to accomplish my mission.

I dress up and leave the house.

I rev the engine of my sports car and shoot into the street.

We live in a very secluded and private area. Our nearest neighbour, the one whose throat was diced with a knife, lives a fifteen minutes walk away from us.

I drive slowly until I spot two black SUVs on my tail. I'm not entirely sure their following me until a gun comes out of the window and shoots at my car.

I manoevre the car into a sharp bend and speed into the highway. I would definitely be getting a speeding ticket.

They are still coming even though there are some cars between us.

They are nudging past cars.

I can't see their faces. They are probably hired. They don't try to shoot because we are on a highway. I think about my wife that I left alone in the bunker. What if they're after her too?

She's too weak to defend herself.

I speed down into a one- lane road. I swerve into an alleyway and speed through the small space.

They stop since their cars cannot fit through the small space. They try shooting at the back of my car. I really do love this car. They are going to pay.

They reverse and drive away. I know they are going to go around. I enter the road and turn left, away from the direction they will come from.

I drive down the path that leads to an unused railway track. The road is muddy and bumpy. I come out of the car, pull my things out of the glove box and stuff them into my bag.

I can see them approaching. I attach an explosive at the bottom of the car and push it forward. I don't have enough time to push it all the way. The car tumbles over.

I leave it and run as fast as I can. I hide behind a huge rock.

They stop the car and come out. There are four men altogether, two from each car. All of them are armed. They slowly walk towards my car and jerk the door open. They see no one inside. They start looking around. One of them bends to look under the car. He sees the explosive.

"Run!" He shouts.

Before they can even move, I press the button. Everything goes up in flames. I had them exactly where I wanted them. Car parts are flying around. If I had killed them myself, I would have to take care of the dead bodies. It is now very expensive to hire underground cleaning agents for any job.

It would just look like a car accident. The police would think that the car tumbled down into the rail line and exploded.

I walk towards their cars a distance away. I can feel the radiation spewing from the fire even from my distance.

I open the door and go through their car. One of them left their phone behind. The phone suddenly rings. I pick up.

"Have you finished the job?" A feminine voice asks.

I hesitate for a second.

"Yes ma'am. He has been eliminated". I say.

"Good. Meet me at my house for payment".
