I slipped away from Arthur, my heart pounding as I moved silently down the hallway. Fiona's voice grew clearer as I approached. She was standing with her back to me, her phone pressed tightly to her ear as she spoke in hushed, venomous tones.
"Adrian, you need to calm down right now," she hissed. "You're not thinking clearly."
I pressed myself against the wall, hidden just around the corner. The earpiece Arthur had given me was no longer necessary—I could hear every word directly.
"Calm down?" Adrian's voice was so loud through the phone that I could hear him clearly. "The media is swarming my apartment! They're calling me Dr. Wilson's accomplice! I can't even leave my building, Fiona!"
"That's hardly my problem," Fiona replied coldly.
"Not your problem?" Adrian's voice cracked. "You're the one who stole Dr. Wilson's identity! You're the one who used it to seduce Caleb! And what about all those times you pretended to be Elara to ruin her reputation?"
