Chapter 145 - Chapter 146: Yumekuma is Definitely Not an Elephant!

Within moments, the two headlines spread across Konoha.

Not that everyone cared so much about what came next — they just had never seen this kind of promotion before. People thought Akaba was being a little too quirky.

Why can't he just do normal promotion?

At least say something specific! This half-baked promo was starting to piss people off.

For Akaba, that kind of reaction was more than enough.

He wasn't like those idiotic editors from his past life chasing royalty money and clickbait cash.

Actually writing out details might have disappointed people even more.

Now, with the Daimyo leading the way, manga printing in the Land of Fire had already formed a sufficiently large-scale industry chain.

The updates for both manga titles needed only one day before sufficient copies were printed.

Early the next morning,

Izumi Yamano delivered two hundred copies each of both manga titles to Konoha Village.

It was still early — Akaba hadn't even woken up yet.

By the time he arrived at the manga shop, Izumi's caravan had already left.

Perhaps due to the earlier advertisement taking effect, when Akaba reached the store, he saw that many of the two hundred manga copies had already been sold.

"Master, I just finished tallying the sales. 'Naruto' has sold fifty-three copies, and 'One Piece' has sold forty-one."

"Not bad. Keep monitoring."

Akaba nodded, then created a Shadow Clone inside the small room to stay behind and work.

He'd have this clone stay here to run the shop. That way, if Anbu came looking for him, they'd find someone on site.

But for Sakuma Yunlang, this was unexpectedly good news.

Akaba sat by the door without rushing off.

He pondered whether he should summon Zhi Meng to let it experience the joy of reading manga.

But doing that required biting his finger until it bled.

"I should've saved some blood from my gums while brushing my teeth earlier."

After struggling for quite some time, Akaba gritted his teeth and bit through the skin on his fingertip.

A few drops of blood dripped out.

"Master, what are you doing?" Sakuma Yunlang asked, confused and astonished.

After all, he wasn't a ninja, and Summoning Technique was considered rather advanced ninjutsu. Without the Summoning Scroll, very few in the Sakuma clan understood it.

"Summoning a summoning beast," Akaba replied.

After smearing blood on his fingertip, Akaba quickly performed hand seals and pressed them onto the ground.

[Summoning Jutsu Activated.]

Soon after, a miniature tapir emerged from the center of the summoning circle.

Still damp, it looked around in confusion.

Though the surroundings were unfamiliar, it recognized Akaba's chakra instantly and remained calm. It quickly noticed him, then laboriously bounced along trying to hop onto Akaba's shoulder.

Too bad this wasn't the dream world — it couldn't take off.

"Brother Akaba, give me a lift! I wanna stand higher!"

"It speaks?!"

Sakuma Yunlang was incredibly shocked, staring wide-eyed at this tiny creature slightly larger than a palm.

This was his first time seeing anything like it.

Zhi Meng turned around and looked at him, flaring its nose.

For some reason, Sakuma felt as though he'd been looked down upon.

Right then, Akaba lowered his hand and lifted the little animal onto his shoulder.

Zhi Meng's eyes swept curiously around the room before quickly landing on the manga books lying on the table.

"Akaba, Akaba, what's this?"

It looked ready to leap down but stopped itself mid-motion upon realizing this wasn't a dream.

"Manga."

Akaba placed it on the table. Sakuma Yunlang was startled and nearly fell off his stool.

Zhi Meng glanced upward smugly. "Mere human, there's no need to fear this one. I have no interest in your dreams."

"Uhh...okay okay!"

Sakuma Yunlang swallowed hard. This was his first time seeing such an unusual creature—it was quite a test for his composure.

"Brother Yunlang, help bring out the entire set."

Akaba smiled slightly.

Once Zhi Meng reads the manga, it will gain the ability to create virtual reality games through dreams—purely as entertainment. It would actually be more convenient than his genjutsu techniques.

Perfect plan!

"Alright."

Sakuma Yunlang took out the first few volumes and neatly lined them up on the table.

Zhi Meng could read! It trotted over to the first volume and flipped it open with its nose.

"Woah! The Nine-Tails Beast!"

Upon seeing the first page, it shrieked in surprise, then half-sat, using both paws to continue flipping through.

Things like these didn't exist at all in its world.

After just one glance, it was completely captivated by the manga.

"Hahaha, those humans are so stupid, spending so long chasing after one kid."

"[Sexy Technique]—haha!"

It cackled as it read. At first, Akaba found it somewhat amusing, but soon he gradually found it unbearable to watch.

Too freaking creepy!

Its taste in humor was disturbingly low.

Unable to comment further, Akaba silently watched it, wondering how long it would keep laughing.

With new books arriving, there were indeed quite a few customers coming in to buy.

People came and went from the shop, paying bills. Before long, crowds began gathering around the little creature on the table.

"A summoning beast?"

"It can understand written text? Definitely extremely intelligent."

"So amazing! No wonder it belongs to genius Akaba."

They whispered softly among themselves, but to Akaba and Zhi Meng, the content of this volume wasn't particularly extreme.

Therefore, the small beast raised its head proudly, changing its sitting position.

Even surrounded by onlookers, it stopped laughing and tried to appear very serious and composed.

Watching it act all haughty and pretend to be calm, Akaba couldn't help covering his face and sighing.

Before long, Zhi Meng finished reading the first volume.

Akaba had been watching the points panel, but unfortunately, the manga had just updated, and since quite a few people were reading simultaneously, there was no way to tell exactly how many points Zhi Meng had contributed.

Otherwise, judging from the income points alone, one could determine its real power level.

"What are you guys crowding around the entrance for?"

Just then, Tsunade peeked her head down from the rooftop—the crowd below was too dense, she simply couldn't squeeze through, and had no choice but to take another route.

"That's right, everyone please move away from the door. So many people outside can't get in."

Sakuma Yunlang shouted loudly.

As store manager, what he said actually meant something.

Of course,

Most importantly, Akaba was right there beside him.

Therefore, the surrounding crowd quickly dispersed. Many observant individuals returned to begin checking references, hoping to find information identifying exactly what kind of summoning beast this was.

The crowd had thinned out somewhat, which allowed Tsunade to jump down from above.

At the same time, Zhi Meng exhaled in relief and relaxed her previously stiff posture.

Only then did Tsunade notice Zhi Meng, asking in mild surprise, "Did you just sign a contract with this summoning beast?"

"Mm."

Akaba nodded briefly.

Zhi Meng, however, eyed her warily.

The vibe she gave off was definitely of the dangerous variety.

"Why are you glaring at me? I'm not gonna eat you."

Tsunade snorted derisively and walked inside grumpily, picking up over ten volumes of Naruto manga.

Soon after, though, she noticed that One Piece had updated as well.

"Suddenly got productive. What got into you?"

"Don't let my appearance fool you—I actually care about my career very much."

Akaba wouldn't admit he'd been scared by Mito Uzumaki's Black Room and thus rushed to finish his updates for Naruto.

Tsunade snorted again, clearly not buying it at all.

She pulled out a sealing scroll from her waist, picked up ten copies of the second volume of One Piece, and sealed them all inside.

At this point, she no longer bothered to be picky.

Picking books with a gambler's mentality always left her empty-handed, but sometimes choosing at random landed her something useful.

After finishing her purchase, she half-squatted there for a moment, staring at Zhi Meng.

It might not look strong, but it definitely had smarts—and Tsunade couldn't help but envy it.

After staring for quite a while, Tsunade asked, "Is it an elephant?"

"It's not an elephant at all! I'm a Yumekuma! A Yumekuma!"

Zhi Meng was so angry its nose twitched sideways.

What terrible judgment—to mistake me for an elephant is a serious insult to a Yumekuma!

"A Yumekuma?"

Tsunade blinked slightly, surprised.

She had never seen one in person before but had read about them in clan records—it seemed Danzo also had a Yumekuma as his summoning beast.

However, Danzo's specimen wasn't nearly this small.

Zhi Meng glared at her for a while before suddenly snorting out a puff of smoke through its nose.

Immediately afterward, Tsunade felt a slight dizziness.

When she regained her senses, she found herself standing in a bustling casino.

"A casino? That doesn't make sense—I was in the manga shop!"

Thinking for a moment, Tsunade instantly understood she must've fallen into some technique.

Most likely Genjutsu.

She calmed herself and tried applying both Release Genjutsu and [Genjutsu] Countermeasure techniques, yet her talent in illusion arts had always been rather weak.

Despite trying hard for quite some time, she couldn't break free from the illusion—only growing more frustrated instead.

Zhi Meng began gradually devouring the dream.

Akaba made no attempt to stop it, choosing instead to observe secretly, curious about how far the Yumekuma could go.

A few minutes later, Akaba noticed Tsunade's chakra starting to deplete.

For a member of the Senju clan, if chakra depletion was perceptible, that meant she'd already lost a significant amount.

Even more telling, the Yumekuma's chakra was increasing.

Does it consume chakra?

Thoughtful, Akaba reached out and touched Tsunade.

He reached out with his perception and quickly understood what was happening.

Normally, thanks to the Senju constitution, dreaming wouldn't easily affect her—but the Yumekuma's chakra was consuming and assimilating surrounding chakra, causing Tsunade's body to gradually fill with more and more Yumekuma-derived chakra.

Without outside help, Tsunade would sink deeper and deeper into the illusion.

As for the increase in Yumekuma's chakra, it must have absorbed some of Tsunade's chakra released while she was inside the dream.

Suspecting that, Akaba gently patted Tsunade on the shoulder.

As chakra flowed in, Tsunade's chakra quickly calmed down.

Zhi Meng saw things were going downhill and quickly glanced at a few manga before retreating to his original spot.

By the time Tsunade awakened from her dream, Yumekuma had already vanished.

Sakuma Yunlang was stunned. He finished his business and ran off immediately—the intelligence of this summoning beast really scared him.

"Tch."

Tsunade had caused massive destruction within the dream, but in the end, she was the one who suffered most. After finally waking up, Yumekuma had already run off.

She felt like she had power with nowhere to use it!

"Eh, Tsunade, you should also work on improving your resistance to Genjutsu."

From his observation earlier, the dream was very fragile at the beginning and could easily be forcefully broken through.

Hesitation from Tsunade only caused her to sink further into the dream.

"I got beaten even by a Summoning Beast!"

Tsunade rolled up the sealing scroll, her mood suddenly souring even though she'd been happy just moments ago when two scrolls came online at once.

She waved goodbye and headed home.

Watching her leave, Akaba fell into deep thought.

Zhi Meng's ability might actually be useful in certain ways—it remained to be seen whether breaking into its dream would harm itself.

Moreover, its physical body was likely quite fragile.

After all, Danzo was so huge yet still ended up being instantly killed. It seemed the Yumekuma clan wasn't much better than the Sakuma clan when it came to physical strength.

Therefore, its real combat capability still required observation and experimentation.
