Chapter 147 - Chapter 148: Mirage in the Mist

White Fang's Version of the Three-Blade Style?

Imagining Sakumo holding one sword in his mouth, one sword in each hand, and then using Chidori Blade...

The image was just too breathtaking!

Akaba covered his face, unable to even imagine such a scene.

Upon further thought, though, he felt the Three-Blade Style wasn't very likely. That style might work in One Piece, but in the Fire Shadow World filled with various ninja techniques, the Three-Blade Style seemed overly flashy and inappropriate.

He knew Sakumo would make the right call on his own.

"I'm going to take Gammaru out for another walk. If I go home late, some chores won't get done."

Inuzuka Ishi put Gammaru down and prepared to head home.

"I'll be leaving too. I've just been handling herbs — I reek of them."

Loe felt somewhat disappointed. The title had been so explosive-sounding, yet the actual content was nothing special.

Just as expected —

Clickbait artists are always trouble!

He muttered inwardly.

"Please feel free, gentlemen."

Sakuma Yunlang had previously looked serious, but the moment they left, his demeanor quickly changed as he began counting money excitedly.

Soon after, he exclaimed happily, "Young master, we've already sold one hundred copies in just two hours!"

"At this rate, we should sell out today. New stock should arrive tomorrow just in time."

Akaba smiled brightly.

Being a clickbait artist actually felt amazing. Previously, it took more than a day to sell two hundred copies.

Today alone, they'd nearly sold half of it already.

"Your promotional tactics are top-notch, young master."

From observation, Sakuma Yunlang clearly grasped some key points.

"Cough, you shouldn't copy the tactics of title-snatching. I'm afraid someone might beat you up for it."

Akaba kindly warned him.

After all, being Danzo's disciple and also a young genius with formidable strength meant no one dared grab him by the collar or drag him away under a black hood for a beating.

But Sakuma Yunlang was different.

"Hehehe, I understand, young master."

He let out an odd laugh.

Akaba didn't know exactly what he was thinking, but he still felt a vague sense of unease. Thinking for a bit, he pointed at him threateningly, saying, "Don't try shifting blame onto me, or I'll beat you to death!"

"Cough, what are you talking about? How could I ever do something like that?"

Sakuma Yunlang said this while nodding, but his voice lacked conviction.

Akaba didn't dwell on it much.

Even if things went wrong and blame landed on him, it wouldn't matter. After all, too many debts never really weigh you down anyway.

"Someone's trying to reach the shadow clone inside."

Akaba pointed toward the interior.

"I understand."

Sakuma Yunlang nodded.

Akaba didn't return home but instead followed the path heading outside the village.

Since both books updated simultaneously, his points surged.

Just yesterday he'd exchanged for chakra enhancement, and now today he already gained over six hundred more points.

With chakra and points secured, some previously useless jutsu could finally be considered worth exchanging.

For instance, [Water Dragon Bullet Jutsu] and [Great Waterfall Technique].

Both these jutsu had tremendous power, but consumed massive amounts of chakra.

Previously, Akaba had belonged to the group of low-chakra users, and with priority given to physique-enhancing techniques, he couldn't spare resources to exchange for these powerful moves.

Now, finally came the time to acquire them.

Both techniques affected a wide area and weren't suitable for use within Konoha Village.

The most suitable place was definitely the training field in the Forest of Death.

However,

When he reached the Forest of Death, Akaba saw several snakes.

It's no surprise to find snakes in the jungle, but these were clearly not ordinary snakes—each possessed considerable intelligence.

The moment they saw him, they quickly vanished into the foliage.

"Is Orochimaru here too?"

This place wasn't far from the manga shop. Akaba had chosen it for convenience and never expected to run into Orochimaru here.

He made his way toward where the snakes had vanished and soon detected Orochimaru's presence.

"Mr. Akaba, I didn't expect to see you here."

Orochimaru emerged from among the trees, holding a small device in his hand. Clearly, just like Akaba, he was testing new ninjutsu here.

Akaba glanced at it briefly.

This device looked like one used by sound ninja.

"You've already figured out the Sound ninja's techniques so quickly?"

He felt somewhat surprised.

Granted that Orochimaru got the manga book first and read its contents, it had only been two hours at most.

"I originally planned to make a bracer that enhances Wind Release. After some modifications, I managed to achieve the state described in your book."

Orochimaru raised his right hand.

On his right arm was a modified bracer. Then he waved his arm slightly.

Chakra surged forth, and a sharp screeching sound rang out.

Boom!

Instantly, a nearby small tree trunk was blown apart.

Orochimaru sighed. "The focus point seems slightly off. It can't produce effective attacking sound waves, but I accidentally discovered this function instead."

Akaba stared wide-eyed—wasn't that [Decapitating Airwaves]?

No wonder he's destined to become a scientific genius!

He hadn't even drawn it out yet, but Orochimaru had already researched and developed it.

But judging from the power shown, further research would still be required before it could be practically used in battle.

After finishing his test, Orochimaru put away the bracer.

To him, such a technique wasn't particularly powerful, and needing equipment to use made it somewhat impractical.

But since it was a new type of ninjutsu, Orochimaru was eager to study it further.

He looked at Akaba curiously and asked, "What jutsu are you testing here?"

"Water Dragon Bullet Jutsu."

Akaba casually unlocked the Water Dragon Bullet Jutsu by spending 100 points. Immediately afterward, knowledge flooded into his mind.

Orochimaru blinked slightly, then quickly became interested. "Can I observe?"

He didn't ask how Akaba learned it—this technique was widely known in the Ninja World, and there were plenty of ways to acquire it.

"Of course you can. You can record the attack strength for me, and later help me refine another technique."

Akaba replied casually.

"That works."

What kind of technique needed refinement?

Orochimaru was very curious—and quite excited.

Without further explanation, Akaba walked to a more open training field ahead.

There was no river here, but the humidity within the forest was quite high, allowing for a reasonably strong Water Release technique to be executed even without a water source.

Akaba once again reviewed the memory stored in his mind.

The original Water Dragon Bullet Jutsu required extremely complex hand seals, but the version purchased from the system surprisingly included knowledge on how to simplify it.

That surprised him greatly.

Orochimaru stood nearby, waiting patiently for Akaba to begin casting his technique.

Not long after

Akaba's hands formed seals in rapid succession. With the simplified Water Dragon Bullet Jutsu, the technique was quickly released.

Roar!

A water dragon emerged from surrounding water sources and flew toward distant cliffs.

A tremendous explosion rang out.

The rocks exploded on impact, reducing to rubble and leaving only shallow puddles behind.

"What incredible power!"

Orochimaru exclaimed in amazement, closely examining Akaba.

Such power would definitely require massive chakra consumption.

"Not bad. The chakra consumption was much less than expected."

Akaba considered it satisfactory.

With strong Water Dragon Bullet effects, he now had additional direct attack options besides genjutsu.

"What about your other technique?"

Orochimaru's curiosity grew impatient. While impressive, Water Dragon Bullet didn't interest him — what truly interested him was the other new ninjutsu Akaba had developed.

"Just a moment."

Akaba glanced at the sky to check lighting conditions before starting to form hand seals.

Soon afterward, thin mist began rising around them.

Hiding in Mist Technique?

Orochimaru frowned. What good could such light fog possibly do?

He felt confused, but not for long.

He saw Akaba draw a kunai and charge toward him across the distance.

Though puzzled, Orochimaru still launched an attack.

However

In the next instant, he noticed the mist concentration changing.

Some areas thickened while others became thinner, and simultaneously, the running figure within the fog multiplied into several silhouettes.

"Clone Jutsu?"

A question formed in Orochimaru's mind, but immediately afterward, he saw all figures stop at once and begin forming hand seals in unison.

[Water Style Water Dragon Bullet Technique!]

Six water dragons roared into existence, making it impossible to distinguish reality from illusion. Orochimaru dared not be careless, quickly retreating and fleeing.

In the next heartbeat, water dragons surged from the mist.

At that moment, Orochimaru noticed seven water dragons instead of six.

Genjutsu?

He speculated mentally, yet found it hard to believe.

When the Water Dragon Bullets struck ground, Orochimaru saw actual impact locations differed from expectations.

Had he dodged based on predictions, he might have suffered defeat.

"Was that genjutsu?"

He asked in surprise. This was simply unbelievable.

"It is and isn't genjutsu."

Akaba released the Hiding in Mist Technique, and as mist cleared, all silhouettes vanished.

Seeing this, Orochimaru fell deep in thought.

Clearly those figures and multiple water dragons connected with the mist — but why?

"In desert regions, at sea, or during heavy fog, mirages sometimes appear like illusions — I applied a similar principle."

Akaba explained.

"I see. It wasn't genjutsu, but rather my eyes deceiving me."

Orochimaru muttered to himself, then shook his head realizing something, "But there was also hypnotism. You guided perception through hypnotic techniques."

"Yes. I'm considering combining this with genjutsu to make the technique more versatile and bizarre."

Akaba voiced his thoughts.

Orochimaru recalled their previous battle.

The constant shift between reality and illusion had worn him down completely.

If this technique incorporated genjutsu elements, it would become even more unpredictable.

However, upon deeper reflection, it seemed its practicality wasn't that high. After all, if Akaba could create geographical environments, his opponent could just as easily use ninjutsu to destroy those environments, naturally nullifying the technique.

Akaba had been struggling with this exact problem, which was why he wanted to incorporate genjutsu. But that led to another issue altogether.

If Five Senses Manipulation could already take effect, was there really a need for such complicated methods?

Since the illusionary effects of Five Senses Manipulation couldn't work, combining them with genjutsu techniques probably wouldn't help either.

"There could be more potential uses."

Orochimaru's eyes lit up as he said, "What would happen if this technique were combined with Dance of the Sword?"

"Dance of the Sword does have its merits,"

Akaba said, slightly startled. This sword technique used shadow clones to deceive opponents, causing them to expose vulnerabilities, after which the real body hiding in the shadows would strike secretly and kill them.

Combined with illusions created through Hiding in Mist Technique, it might actually produce extraordinary results.

"I'll go back and explore further possibilities."

After a moment of contemplation, Orochimaru finally didn't give an exact answer.

He didn't fully grasp the Hiding in Mist Technique — some things needed testing before they made sense.

"Then I'm very grateful."

Akaba had approached Orochimaru on a whim, hoping to leverage his research capabilities to discover even stronger applications.

Since the other side agreed, he had no reason to say no.
