Turning his head, Julian reached out and placed his hand over Catherine's finger, slowly removing the diamond-set ring from it. A faint indentation was left behind where the ring had once rested, a clear mark that she had worn it for an untold length of time.
All the while, Catherine kept her eyes fixed on Julian, watching as he carefully removed the ring from her hand. She couldn't help but exhale gently, as if sighing through orchids.
"Just keep it with you for now," she said, feigning composure.
"Mm..." Julian carefully stored Catherine's ring.
After he had done so, Catherine's gaze dropped and landed on Julian's feet.
"While we've still got time, how about I help trim your toenails?" she asked, gently touching his ankle.
Julian's face revealed a hint of resistance—not because he didn't want her to do it, but because earlier that morning, Enie had licked his foot...
He hadn't looked closely at the time. What if there was still some trace left behind?
