Chapter 3 - Receive the Family Heirloom

Cyrille Bennett wasn't here to fight.

"Nevaeh, let the past be the past. I still care about you. My brother's in a coma, and being with him basically means you'll be living like a widow. We can keep our relationship secret, and once my brother is gone, all his fortune will be ours."

Nevaeh Huck had never realized just how disgusting Cyrille could be.

After hearing his words, she scoffed and shot back, "What if your brother doesn't die?"

She had already given Cassius the injection, and she was sure he'd wake up soon.

"That's impossible! The doctors already said he's critical, and the coffin's even been prepared," Cyrille said confidently.

Nevaeh narrowed her eyes. "Do you really think that if your brother wakes up and finds out you've been wishing him dead, he won't want to kill you?"

Cyrille flinched and quickly turned to look at Cassius Bennett lying on the bed. Seeing his eyes still tightly shut, he relaxed a little.

"Stop trying to scare me."

Nevaeh didn't have time to deal with him.

"Are you leaving or not? If you don't, I'm calling someone right now."

Cyrille was pissed, but he didn't dare cause a scene. He knew Nevaeh wasn't bluffing. He stormed off angrily.

After he left, Nevaeh sat down beside Cassius's bed and looked at his sleeping face. Her tone softened.

"Did you hear that? Someone's already planning your death, waiting to steal the fortune you worked so hard for. Do you really want your money to fall into that jerk's hands?"

But the person on the bed didn't move at all.

Just as Nevaeh Huck finished speaking, there was a knock on the door.

Hussein walked in.

"Madam, the elder of the Bennett family is here. He wants to see you."

Nevaeh glanced at Cassius Bennett again, unsure when he'd finally wake up.

Everyone's body reacts differently, and the time it takes to regain consciousness isn't always the same.

She had already done all she could. The rest was up to him.

Inside the study, Nevaeh Huck met Quade Bennett, the elder of the Bennett family.

His hair was gray, but he still looked strong.

He leaned on a cane, though it was obvious his legs weren't in great shape.

"Good day, Elder," Nevaeh said, bowing her head slightly to greet him.

"Mm." The elder's voice was deep as he walked over, supported by someone. He stopped in front of her and stared closely.

"You're the bride Cassius married yesterday?"

"Yes, I'm Nevaeh Huck," she replied politely.

Nevaeh Huck was calm and straightforward.

The elder looked at her and nodded with satisfaction.

"You already know about Cassius's condition. I'm sorry for all the trouble this marriage has brought you. If there's anything you want, feel free to say it. The Bennett family will do our best to meet your needs."

The old man spoke kindly, his face full of warmth. Nevaeh looked at him and suddenly thought of her grandmother.

She felt a weird, unexpected fondness for him, like a grandpa she never had.

"Thank you, Grandpa, but I really don't need anything."

"Hm? What did you call me?"

Nevaeh blinked, then said again, "Grandpa."

"Good, good." The old man turned around and picked up a beautiful box from the table. He handed it to Nevaeh.

"This is a family heirloom of the Bennett family. You should keep it."

Nevaeh quickly shook her head.

"Grandpa, this is way too valuable."

An heirloom? She was just a temporary bride. There was no way she deserved that.

"You'll take it because I said so."

The elder didn't budge, gently pressing the box into her hands. Looking at her quiet and respectful face, he grew even more fond of her.

"The master said your destiny aligns with Cassius's. You're the one who can save him. With you by his side, I can finally feel at peace. If he wakes up and you two end up having a child, there'll be a big reward waiting for you!"

Nevaeh forced a smile.

She knew deep down she'd be leaving in a few days anyway, so the whole idea of some great-grandchild reward was just impossible. Besides, Cassius Bennett didn't even like her.

But when she saw the happy smile on the old man's face, she just couldn't bring herself to tell him the truth.
