Chapter 99 - Chapter 99: Goku Rises to Second, Vegeta Frustrated, and Frieza's Return!

Krillin: "@Goku, Goku, I just sensed that you and Vegeta aren't in the same place anymore. I'm guessing Vegeta left—he doesn't want to fight you anymore."

Goku: "@Krillin, Krillin, how'd you figure that out?"

Krillin: "Isn't it obvious? Your strength has surpassed his now. Since he can't beat you, he's naturally not in the mood to keep fighting."

Goku: "But we were just sparring! I was really looking forward to testing how strong I've become!"

Krillin: "No, Goku. You don't get what this means to Vegeta. This match wasn't just training to him—it was his chance to finally beat you and prove he's stronger. That's been his dream all along."

Krillin: "But now that you've surpassed him again, he's back to square one. That dream feels even more out of reach. You can see why he wouldn't be in the mood for another fight right now."

Piccolo: "@Goku, you really have a lot to learn when it comes to reading people."

Goku: "Ah... I see. That's a shame. I really wanted to see how I'd do."

Krillin: "Don't worry. There will be more chances. Vegeta might not want to fight seriously right now, but he'll still spar with you, right? Vegeta, what do you say? @Vegeta"

Vegeta: "Hmph. Maybe later. Right now, I don't feel like it."

Tien: "Looks like Vegeta's pride took a hit."

Champa: "@Vegeta, come on. Don't let such a small setback get to you."

Beerus: "@Champa, easy for you to say. Let me paint a picture for you..."

Beerus: "Imagine you're the weakest God of Destruction, and you've been trying to surpass someone just ahead of you for ages. Then finally, you catch up! You're ready to prove yourself. But right before the fight... your rival powers up again and leaves you behind."

Vados: "That analogy works, Lord Beerus, but let me strengthen it a bit."

Vados: "Imagine this: Lord Champa, you finally surpass your rival, and you're just about to challenge them. You're certain you'll win. But then, right before the match, they get lucky. They grab a task that boosts their power way beyond yours. Just like that, your hard-earned advantage is gone."

Champa: "Alright, alright! I get it! @Vegeta, I understand your frustration. It's not easy to deal with setbacks like that."

Vegeta: "I appreciate the sympathy, but it doesn't help much."

Krillin: "By the way, @Jack, now that Goku's completed his task, shouldn't he be added to the top fighter rankings?"

Krillin: "I wonder where he'll rank. If he beats Vegeta... Vegeta might lose it."

Piccolo: "@Krillin, but if Goku moves up, doesn't that push you out of the top three?"

Krillin: "Yikes! I forgot about that! But hey, if that's the case, what can I do?"

Jack: "Alright, I'll update the rankings now. I don't actually decide the order—the ranking is set by the group based on the tasks completed."

The fighter leaderboard refreshed. Everyone looked at the new standings.

Krillin: "@Vegeta, Vegeta, don't be mad! I didn't expect to jinx it like that!"

Goku had taken second place!

Vegeta, previously second, dropped to third. Krillin, formerly third, fell to fourth.

Vegeta:

He was stunned. Just earlier, he was overjoyed at surpassing Goku. Now, all of it was gone. Second place—gone. His lead over Goku—gone. It felt like his pride had been shattered.

Beerus: "The battle for the top spot is intense. But look, I'm still number one."

Jack: "@Beerus, don't get too comfortable. Goku and Vegeta are both right behind you. If either of them completes another mission, they might take your place."

Beerus: "Thanks for the reminder, Jack. The best way to stay on top... is to keep grabbing missions!"

Beerus: "As long as I finish more tasks than anyone else, I'll stay number one."

Champa: "@Beerus, you're dreaming! What, are you planning to take every mission for yourself?"

Beerus: "I wouldn't mind if I could! But Jack is fair and impartial. He'd never let that happen."

Champa: "Exactly. So don't get too cocky. Sure, you're on top now, but it may not last."

Beerus: "If Goku or Vegeta said that, I'd take it seriously. But you? You haven't even finished one mission. Your name's not even on the leaderboard."

Champa: "Just wait! Maybe I'll grab several tasks in a row and shoot up to number one!"

Beerus: "Sure, sure. Keep dreaming."

Beerus: "So far, no one's completed more than one mission. And you, of all people, haven't done even one."

Champa: "That's irrelevant! Just because none of your guys completed two tasks doesn't mean I won't. There's no conflict there."

Beerus: "Right. Keep telling yourself that."

---

Meanwhile, in the cold depths of space, several spaceships cruised through the darkness.

Inside the lead ship, Frieza sat on his throne, gazing at the galaxy on the screen in front of him.

Soldier: "King Frieza, we're approaching the Milky Way. We'll arrive in the solar system soon."

Frieza's eyes narrowed. A cold grin crept onto his face.

He had been resurrected for some time, but he didn't immediately seek revenge. He knew his old strength wasn't enough.

But now... after months of intense training, he was ready.

This time, he would have his revenge!

As Frieza's fleet approached, the Galactic Patrol detected his movement. Member Jaco rushed to Earth to warn them.

Jaco found Bulma and broke the news: Frieza had been resurrected and was on his way to Earth!

Bulma: "Frieza's back? And heading here!?"

She panicked. Earth's strongest fighters—Goku, Vegeta, Krillin, and Tien—were all training with Beerus. Only Piccolo and Gohan were left on Earth.

And Gohan hadn't trained seriously in years.

In desperation, Bulma reached for the communicator Whis had given her and tried to get in touch.

---

Beerus' Planet.

Goku and Vegeta were sparring.

Although Vegeta had given up on a serious duel with Goku, they still trained together to stay sharp.

Points from the thug group were limited—they couldn't rely solely on items to grow stronger.

Krillin and Tien were sparring too. After receiving Saiyan blood, Tien had come to train with Beerus.

He had even unlocked the Super Saiyan transformation, though he hadn't yet achieved god-level power.

Whis and Beerus lounged nearby, only half-watching. In reality, they were chatting in the group chat with Champa and the others.

Because of this, Whis didn't immediately notice Bulma's call.

Bulma: "Ugh! I can't get through to Whis! I have to warn Goku and the others about Frieza!"

With no other choice, she contacted Piccolo.

When Piccolo and Gohan heard the news, they were stunned.

Then... they felt it.

Frieza's dark ki—rapidly approaching Earth.

Piccolo and Gohan immediately flew to intercept the invading force.

Piccolo: "Gohan, are you ready? It's been a while since you've fought."

He eyed Gohan—wearing casual clothes and glasses. He looked nothing like a fighter.

If this were the Gohan from the Buu Saga, Piccolo wouldn't be worried. Back then, Gohan was stronger than even Goku—he was unstoppable.

But now... he looked like a scholar, not a warrior.

Still, Gohan's resolve hadn't faded.

Gohan: "Uncle Piccolo, we're the only ones who can protect Earth right now. I'm ready!"

Gohan had a family now. He had something to protect.

Gohan: "Wait... Uncle Piccolo, can't you contact Dad through the thug group?"

Piccolo: "Ah! I forgot!"

Flustered by Frieza's sudden return, Piccolo had forgotten about the most direct way to reach Goku.

Piccolo: "@Goku, @Vegeta, @Krillin, @Tien—can you see this!?"

Beerus: "@Piccolo, they're all sparring. What's going on?"

Piccolo: "@Beerus, Lord Beerus, please tell them—Frieza is back and heading to Earth with an army! We need them back now!"

Piccolo: "Gohan and I might not be enough to stop him!"

Beerus: "Frieza!? How!? He was dead!"

Piccolo: "No idea. Maybe someone used the Dragon Balls. Whatever the reason, he's on his way, and we need help—fast!"

Beerus: "Got it."

Beerus' expression turned serious. Earth was a food paradise—he had no intention of letting it be destroyed.

He turned toward the fighters.

Beerus: "You four—pause your training! We have a problem!"
