Chapter 10 - Chapter 10

They continued the test further.

First was with knives, next was with guns. And the third was with both guns and knives.

In the next scene, they were surrounded by multiple men and had to fight them. First alone, then together.

I remember this scene in the novel. It was quite cool to see the main characters gain the favour of their cold father.

Father looked at them as they passed their third test and got up from his chair.

"Let's go for the next one."

We went into the car and drove to a place far from the mansion. We stopped at an old house. It was elegant and large enough to make me ponder who in their right mind would leave such a place for sale. This house was bought by my father to test his child, and that child was me.

Immediately, those two were taken somewhere else. I followed and learned about the messy garage in the back of the house.

They were said to be positioned in the middle of the area, with nothing in their hands. No guns, no knives, no protection, no weapons. Just them and the people around them.

"Start!"

Several men with their weapons leaped onto them. Leaving them no space or time to prepare.

The goal of this round was to test whether these two can fight their way out in case of a sudden attack when they are vulnerable and empty-handed.

I once again go through my memory of the novel, and I know what will happen next. Unfortunately, they would die.

Keiran and Mira leaned onto each other's backs, looking forward with heavy breaths.

Their hands are tight in a fist. Mira moved first and punched a man coming towards her. Keiran dodged another but was kicked in the stomach and flew into a bundle of chairs. He was breathing heavily with blood coming out of his mouth. He took no time and tried to stand to fight again. He took support from a chair on his side and paused to look at it briefly before smiling. His teeth were painted red.

The man, one of Father's men, pounced on Keiran and was walloped with a chair. The wooden leg broke. Keiran stood up with his hand taking support on his knees.

"I have to fight like in a real fight," he says, looking up at his father, and the blood has stopped dripping from his mouth. "I am fighting, with no weapons."

Father kept his silence.

Mira and Keiran fight over the other remaining things in the garage. Chairs, rods, bottles of plastic, everything possible. At last, the match stops and the two slump on the ground, heavy with sweat and dust.

I was telling the truth, though. The other men (many) did die!

The boss, my father, stood and announced in a loud voice.

"The test is over." He looked at them and then at me, my heart pounding with anticipation.

"You taught them well."

~~~~~~~
One of the members from 'The Web', Oliver, came into the cabin I was working in. He was a middle-aged man who had been working for us for around twenty years and had secured his position in the 'Spiders'.
There are three ranks in 'The Web';
'Threads' are a group of informants. They help with finding different information and are the most important figures of the organization.
Next come 'Spiders' who are in the upper rank of the Threads. They gather all the collected information and sort it into categories. That's it, that's their job. Anything else than that would be working right under their boss, the 'Weaver'.
This 'Weaver' controls all the networks around the continent. As my father still gives me some assignments from here and there, I even have direct control over the 'Threads' as well.
But as my work is piling up because of the original storyline, it is getting difficult to work alongside the 'Threads', so I'm just working with the 'Spiders' for now.
"Just as you ordered, we have looked into it and gotten information that there would be an attack in the shop near the Thursday Park. Honestly, how did you know there would be an attack?" Oliver looked at me with suspicion and curiosity.
It's been years since I entered this world, and so I wanted to see if my memory of the story was still intact.
There was a plot where our rival company got to know about one of our intel locations and tried to destroy it.
"I was passing by our shop when I heard someone whisper about 'attacking'. My instinct told me something was wrong so I thought to gather information about Mirada, our rival company, since they felt the most suspicious." It's not like I can tell him about the novel, so I decided to lie, which I always have.
When he didn't say anything, I got nervous thinking he might have grasped the lie. But to my relief, he smiled a moment later and took his leave after a bow.
I decided to focus on the work ahead. Recently, a few new recruits have joined the organization. They are related to the others by different relations.
Ever since I got my hands on 'The Web' I have been slowly trying to replace people here with mine. People who had their things snatched were left with nothing but debt, and even those who were exploited wrongly and wanted revenge.
I helped them get into the organization and build their own strength. They all were grateful and looked at me as their only leader.
My intentions to save them were pure; they felt pitiful, and I had the power to help them.
In the original story, Elira was weak with not much support. But now, this Elira has the most power. It would be very easy to leave if something bad were to happen.
Now that the prediction of the novel was correct, why don't I try to recall other events as well?
I sat there thinking when my phone buzzed. Liana was pleading for me to get ice-creams with her. I told her to take Aiden, and she informed
Me he was at the park with his brother.
Something clicked in my brain.
