The sirens began to retreat, moving like shadows in the water. But suddenly, the Empress Poseidon stopped. She turned her head toward Jax and stared at him.
"You remind me of a human I met a long time ago," she said in a strange, almost melancholic tone. "It's been centuries since a human reached a power like yours. But that one… he was special."
Jax felt something ignite inside him. He thought of the mysterious inheritance he had received. He hesitated for a moment but couldn't hold back.
"Did you meet the ancient emperors?" he asked. "The White-Tailed Deer Emperor… and the Demon Emperor, Al'Khash."
The siren fell silent. Her eyes locked on him, as if she were measuring him from the inside. Seconds stretched like an eternity before she finally answered.
"They disappeared many years ago. I thought I'd never hear their names again." A faint smile appeared on her lips. "Who would have thought…"
