Jax stopped laughing. His smile vanished in an instant, and his face turned cold, ice-cold, as if no trace of emotion had ever existed in him. He slowly turned his head toward the fat bishop.

"You… disgust me."

The silence was total. Jax's voice was low, calm, but carried a force that cut through the soul like burning knives.

He took a step forward, and his golden eyes shone like two ignited blades.

"Fourteen days ago… you strangled a servant girl who tried to escape your chambers. You thought no one would ever know."

The bishop trembled. His sweaty face twisted into a panicked grimace.

"Three months ago… you bought a boy from the docks. You broke him until he couldn't even cry anymore. You tossed his body into the sea when you were done."

Murmurs began to rise among the crowd. Some voices cracked with pain.

"Last year… you promised protection to ten families. You took their money, their daughters… and when they begged for mercy, you fed them to your priests as playthings."
