Chapter 69 - SIXTY-NINE

 The call ended too quickly.

Lana couldn't even remember dropping her phone after the call ended. One second she was standing in the middle of her room, staring at her screen in utter horror, and the next she was fumbling her way out of the room like she was actually been chased.

 Please save me. Help me.

her heart was pounding and words wouldn't stop ringing in her head, rattling every nerve, every vein. They weren't words you could just ignore, not when they'd come from someone like Alexander. Not when it was completely unlike him- his voice had been barely there- thin, broken, suffocated.

"Where are you, where are you, where are you…" she whispered to herself, fumbling for her keys on the vanity, nearly knocking over a glass of water in her frantic search. She found them, bolted out the door, and tried to keep her breath steady as she ran for her car.
