Chapter 4 - A CROWD OF PEOPLE

Chapter 4

Han So Hee's heart pounded in her chest as she sprinted toward the wall, her eyes fixed on the crowd of people scrambling to climb it. Ahead of her, a man was helping people over the wall, offering his hand to pull them up. She waited for others to climb as she helped them to push back the zombies.

There were 2 more people ahead of her trying to climb.

There's still a chance, she thought.

I just need to reach him, she told herself, ignoring the panicked growls of the zombies increasing in number and getting closer to her.

As she neared the wall, she stretched out her hand along with the other two people still trying to climb, desperation filling her voice.

"Please! Help me, too!"

The man, Kim Yeon, glanced at her for a brief second before his eyes widened in horror. Behind her, a massive horde of zombies was closing in fast. His face paled, trying to pull up as many as he can and he did. He pulled two other to safety but ...

.

She was the only one left now ...

It will be too late,

he thought, and without a word, he pulled his hand back and disappeared behind the wall himself.

"Wait!" So Hee shouted, panic flooding her. But it was too late.

So Hee whipped around and saw the approaching wave of undead.

I can't go this way,

she realized, her pulse racing.

Without thinking, she bolted in another direction, her feet pounding the ground as she looked for any place to hide. She could hear the moaning of the zombies growing louder, but somehow, she managed to slip out of their sight and duck into an abandoned building through a broken window.

Her breath came in ragged gasps as she pressed her back against the cold wall, clutching her gun tightly.

I'll survive,

she told herself, trying to control her fear.

.

.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the wall, Kim Yeon and the group of survivors were still running, trying to put as much distance between themselves and the zombies as possible. His sister, Kim Yuri, ran beside him, her face streaked with dirt and fear.

"We have to keep going!" Kim Yeon shouted to her, his voice strained from the effort of running.

Yuri glanced at her fiancé, Min Jae, her eyes filled with worry. "How much farther, Min Jae? We can't outrun them forever!"

Min Jae, breathing heavily, pointed ahead. "The rendezvous point is just over there. The helpers will get us out. We just need to hold on a little longer."

Suddenly, the distant sound of a helicopter's rotors filled the air. Yuri's eyes lit up with hope. "That's it! The helicopter!"

Kim Yeon looked up, his heart sinking as he saw the helicopter approaching.

Too loud, he thought, his mind racing.

The sound was attracting more zombies, and soon the horde would be on them.

"We have to move faster!" he shouted.

As they neared the helicopter, zombies swarmed in from all directions, drawn by the noise. Kim Yeon and Min Jae exchanged a glance, their decision made in an instant.

"You go first," Kim Yeon said, turning to Yuri. "Get in the helicopter. We'll hold them off."

Yuri's eyes widened in horror. "No! I'm not leaving without you two!"

Min Jae grabbed her arm gently.

"Yuri, listen to me. We'll be right behind you. But someone has to hold them off or none of us are getting out of here."

Tears welled up in Yuri's eyes as she looked between her brother and her fiancé.

"I can't... I can't leave you."

"You have to," Kim Yeon said firmly, gripping a steel rod and passing the other steel rod to Min Jae.

"We'll be fine. I promise we'll catch up. Just go!"

The helicopter was landing now, the door open and waiting for the survivors. Zombies were closing in fast, their growls growing louder. Yuri hesitated, her heart torn between staying and going.

Min Jae cupped her face, his expression softening despite the chaos around them.

"We'll meet again," he whispered. "I love you, Yuri "

*Yuri sobbing*

"Now go, Yuri !!!"

With a sob, Yuri nodded and climbed into the helicopter. As the doors began to close, she shouted one last time,

"Yeon! Jae! You have to survive! Promise me!"

Kim Yeon gave her a tight nod, his grip tightening on the rod.

"We will," he shouted back, determination filling his voice.

"We'll find you on the other side."

As the helicopter lifted off,

Yuri watched through tear-filled eyes as her brother and fiancé fought back the advancing zombies. They were two against many, but they fought with nothing but a steel rod, refusing to give up.

The helicopter rose higher, and soon they were out of sight.
