Chapter 17 - The language of the new world - Ch.17 •

"Now, let's get out of here quickly," I said, flying into the forest.

"These magicians have really powerful abilities," I thought, but I was also relieved that I could witness the battle.

Because of the ability, it felt like watching a movie, and I instantly felt calmer, as if it were unreal.

I did notice something, but I didn't pass out during such carnage.

"Yippie!" I cheered.

I briefly did my breathing exercises and gradually returned to normal.

Without realizing it, I had flown slowly into the heart of the forest, probably the Panther female's territory.

It rustled, and two small Panther cubs emerged from the bushes.

"Oh, I feel sorry for them..." I felt pity, but there was nothing I could do. They were on their own.

"If they're strong enough, they'll survive," I thought, flying towards the city of the lizard people.

„For your braveness I give you the name [Stone] and you … [ Heart]" I smiled and then flew away.

As I flew, I checked my status and noticed that I had earned 150 [Exp].

That was roughly half the EXP I would have gained if I had killed them myself. I had no memories of it, but I suspected that I received half of all "acquired" EXP.

I couldn't absorb all of it, as the actual earner of the EXP automatically absorbed the rest.

"Well, for being slower in leveling than others, I do have a larger 'body' to show for it," I smiled.

Some time later, I arrived. The army was indeed faster, and some were already resting. A few others were bringing the bodies of the slain lizard people to the temple.

Despite my slight fear of the temple, I followed them because I wanted to see what happened to the bodies.

The temple had undergone some improvements. It had an ornate roof, and the floor was finished. The walls now featured reliefs of marbles, lizard people, and lizard people with marbles. There were small windows that provided dim lighting and revealed stone benches.

Lizards knelt inside, watching the priest as he blessed a dead lizard person, placed them in front of the altar, and murmured a mysterious incantation, after which the body burst into green flames. Then the next one and the next.

I had to admit that the sight was very mysterious and beautiful. I watched spellbound for a while, seeing the flames reflected in the glass marbles.

After a while, I had seen enough and flew to the commanders' house. They were currently discussing war tactics on a table, and the commander was probably reporting on the battle against the Panther.

I glanced around the room, which was modestly furnished. There were no windows yet, but there were simple openings in the walls that could be covered with boards and curtains.

In the center was the table around which everyone stood, and on the walls stood a shelf with paperwork and some posters.

"Hmm...?" I wondered when something caught my eye.

"Is that the alphabet?" I asked myself.

"That has the same characters as in my old world," I thought. I experimented and noticed something.

"This is it!" I exclaimed with joy.

"Hmm... if I understood correctly, the entire alphabet, compared to the one I know, has shifted by three letters.

So, the words remain spelled the same way if I theoretically number the alphabet (1=A...). Only because a different letter now occupies a different number, the words are spelled differently."

"It's like a secret language for a 10-year-old," I chuckled.

I took out my notebook and noted:

I listened to the commanders for a while, jotting down simple words. I tried to translate them.

"Oh, is this German? Luckily, my father was German!"

I had learned German because of him and even studied in Germany.

To understand the lizard people, I just had to think differently and translate. I listened intently to their conversations, though the pronunciation was different.

After about two hours, my head was spinning.

"Oh, it's not going to be that easy!" I said slightly annoyed.

I had already recognized and translated some words, so I created a new notebook with the title "The Language of the New World."

There, I recorded the newly discovered information and tried to directly translate some words. It was essentially like a translation dictionary that I could continually expand.

And as everywhere: " Practice makes perfect". One of my dads favorite sentence's.

So I tried a bit more.
