Chapter 41 - An Investment in Justice

The rain pounded against my skin, each drop feeling like tiny needles of ice. I stood outside the Howling Moon Grand Hotel, soaked to the bone, my emerald gown clinging to my body like a second skin. But I wouldn't leave. I couldn't.

Tristan was my last hope.

A sleek black car pulled up beside me, the window rolling down to reveal Daniel Reed, Julian's personal assistant.

"Luna Monroe," he called over the rain. "Please let me take you home. You'll catch your death out here."

I turned away, wrapping my arms around myself. "I'm not Luna anymore. And I don't need Julian's pity."

"It's not pity. It's basic decency." Daniel's voice was kind, but I could hear the exasperation underneath.

"Then tell your Alpha to try some," I snapped.

Daniel sighed. "At least take this umbrella."
