Chapter 69 - Echoes in an Empty Room

Tristan's POV

I glanced over at Aurelia slumped against the window, her damp chestnut hair clinging to her pale face. The moonstone-fiber blanket I'd wrapped around her shoulders glowed softly in the darkness of the car, its healing properties working to restore her depleted energy. Even in this disheveled state, passed out from alcohol and exhaustion, she was hauntingly beautiful.

"She's out cold," Daniel commented from the driver's seat, his eyes meeting mine in the rearview mirror.

"Keep driving," I instructed, my voice low. "Take the scenic route."

Aurelia's head slipped against the window as we rounded a corner. Without thinking, I reached out and caught her, easing her onto my shoulder instead. Her body instinctively curled toward my warmth, and the faint scent of jasmine still clung to her hair despite her earlier swim in the lake.

"Alpha?" Daniel questioned as we approached a turn that would lead to her cottage.

"Not there," I said firmly. "Take us to Imperial Gardens."
