"Stop being difficult, woman!"
As I lay on the bed with my eyes bandaged, I almost did something very undignified... I nearly growled at my mate. Not the heart-melting, flirty kind of growl. No, I was ready to give him a "back off before I rip your head from your shoulders" kind of growl.
"If you growl at me one more time, I swear I'll—"
"You'll what?" I challenged, even though I couldn't see him. "I told you I don't need your help!"
"Your Majesty," the sorceress's exasperated voice broke through our argument. "Please understand that your wounds are healing, but the process remains delicate. Your bandages need changing."
"Then have my daughter do it. Or another woman."
I could hear her shuffling uncomfortably. "Lady Seraphina has gone to assist the Guardians with preparations, and I have other patients who need urgent care."
"So send another healer!"
"There are none available. Everyone is preoccupied with battle preparations."
