I staggered back, my breath coming in ragged gasps as I watched another Guardian fall to my blade. Blood soaked the ancient stones beneath our feet, most of it belonging to my enemies. Yet too much of it was mine.

I couldn't keep this up much longer.

"Retreat!" I commanded the few remaining followers who still stood. "Fall back to the eastern corridor!"

My men obeyed without question, their faith in me unwavering despite our desperate situation. I cast one final glance at the Lycan King—that red-haired demon who'd torn through my ranks like they were nothing. He was wounded now, bleeding from a dozen places, yet still fighting with the fury of a true beast.

We'd underestimated him. I'd underestimated him.

As I turned to flee, a plan formed in my mind. I needed leverage, something to ensure my escape from this forsaken place. And I knew exactly what would work.

The scarred woman. The one they called Seraphina.
