"Those weren't tears of self-pity," I murmured defensively, wiping at the wetness on my cheeks.

The mysterious woman's mouth curved into a knowing smile. "Nothing is as it seems here, child. Dreams are impossible in my domain."

I stared at her, my mind reeling. If that wasn't a dream... had Landon somehow reached me across the distance? My heart ached at the thought, both hopeful and skeptical.

"You have questions burning in your eyes, but time runs short," she continued, her voice like silk over stone. "Your friend suffers greatly."

Regina. The urgency of my mission came rushing back.

"Can you help her?" I asked, desperation edging my voice.

The woman tilted her head, her eyes—ancient beyond measure—studying me. "The poison consuming her has no permanent cure from my hands. Only her true mate can fully heal her."

My heart sank. "But she'll die before—"
