I felt like I was floating in darkness, surrounded by fragments of memories flashing before my eyes. Vincent's cruel smile as he hacked into my body. Landon's powerful frame looming over me the first day I became his maid. The warmth in my mother's eyes as she called me "daughter."
Voices echoed in the void, distorted and fading.
"Hold on, she's breathing..."
"...needs more power..."
"...can't lose her, I won't..."
Pain surged through my abdomen, sharp and insistent. A terrifying thought crystallized in my mind—my baby! Was I losing my child?
I gasped, my eyes flying open as I clawed my way back to consciousness. Panic seized me, and my hands immediately went to my stomach.
"The baby," I croaked, my throat raw. "My baby—"
"Is fine," a deep voice murmured close to my ear. "You're both fine, love."
