Chapter 23 - The Desperate Chase and the Degraded Sale

I gripped the wooden table edge so hard it splintered beneath my fingers. The Alpha knelt before me, blood pouring from his mouth, eyes wild with fear.

"I swear, that's all I know!" He coughed, spitting more blood onto the stone floor.

"And you just handed it over? A sacred relic that's been protected by werewolves for centuries?" My voice was dangerously calm.

"They had my family! My children!" Alpha Wilkins sobbed, his once-proud demeanor crumbling. "They promised they'd kill them all if I didn't comply."

Regina stepped forward, her face a mask of disgust. "And you believed vampires would keep their word?"

The pathetic excuse for an Alpha lowered his head. "I had no choice."

"There's always a choice," I growled, pulling him up by his hair to meet my gaze. "You chose to betray your kind. You chose to hand over one of our most sacred relics. And you chose to help them identify my maid."

His eyes widened. "Your maid? I didn't know she was—"
