The final property was no better than the others. Standing in the dusty space with peeling paint and questionable wiring, I wondered if this was going to be another complete waste of time.

"As you can see," the realtor said, gesturing grandly at what appeared to be water damage in one corner, "with some vision and creativity, this could be transformed into something truly special."

Translation: This place is a disaster, but I'm hoping you'll be too naive to notice.

I nodded politely while Fabian dragged his feet behind me, clearly at the end of his six-year-old patience. He'd been promised ice cream hours ago, and I was running dangerously close to meltdown territory.

"And we're finished!" Isaac announced suddenly, catching me by surprise. "Thank you so much for your time, Meredith. You've been incredibly helpful today."

The realtor beamed at him, completely under his spell. "My pleasure, Mr. Bennett. Should we discuss next steps?"
