I wrapped my arm around Chloe's waist as we stepped out into the cool night air. Her body felt limp against mine, and I struggled to keep her upright.
"I've got you," I whispered, guiding her down the porch steps.
"M'sorry," she slurred, her head lolling against my shoulder. "Ruined the night."
"You didn't ruin anything." I fished my phone from my pocket with my free hand, ready to call James for an early pickup.
Kyle appeared beside us. "Need help getting her to a car?"
I hesitated, Julian's threat still fresh in my mind. Could I trust Kyle? He seemed genuinely concerned, but he was still Julian's friend.
"I've got it," I replied, tightening my grip on Chloe.
He raised his hands in surrender. "No pressure. Just offering."
As I started to dial James's number, Chloe suddenly lurched forward, doubling over. Before I could react, she was vomiting again, this time all over the front lawn.
"Shit," I muttered, dropping my phone to hold her hair back.
