Prologue

Of all the possible afterlives, this was the last one she'd expected.

Not heaven. Not hell. Not a black void or glorious reincarnation.

No.

She'd opened her eyes inside a garbage-tier romance novel — the exact one she rage-quit at chapter 134.

And she wasn't just any side character or quiet extra in the backdrop. No.

She was the main character.

Evelyn freaking Hart.

The weepy, spineless disaster who spent the whole book on her knees — begging a cheating fiancé to love her, sobbing while her greedy relatives threatened her orphaned niece, and blindly believing that her brother's death was just... fate.

Pathetic.

Evelyn had hated her. And now, she was her.

But there was one thing the novel didn't account for — this Evelyn isn't following the script.

No more begging. No more crawling.

No more playing the good little heroine.

Let them talk about how she "changed overnight." Let them whisper.

Because while the world waits for her to come crawling back to her ex-fiancé, she's walking straight into the lion's den.

Adrian Lester.

The cold, ruthless man the entire city fears.

The one everyone believes murdered her brother.

The man the original Evelyn wouldn't even dare to look in the eye.

And she's proposing to him.

Because deep down, she knows the truth:

Marrying the devil himself would keep the demons at bay.
