Carl arrived at his father's estate just after sunset. He parked his car in the driveway and stayed a few minutes until streaks of blue started staining the sky. As the sky turned dark, he finally opened the door and got out.
On the other side of the driveway, his uncle's silver sedan was already parked. It was his uncle's birthday today. With his aunt and nieces currently out of the country for a school competition, his father decided to organize a dinner to celebrate with him, so he won't be alone on his special day.
While he wasn't particularly in the mood to celebrate, he couldn't reject his dad. Just as he reached out to knock, the door opened from inside.
"I told you I heard him pull up," Professoir Ken called over his shoulder to William, his face lighting up with a smile. He opened the door wider, stepping aside for Carl to enter. "You missed the birthday song."
