Carl settled into his new school with ease. It was definitely different from his old one, but he didn't mind the pace, smaller, slower, with red brick walls instead of the white ones he was used to. Even though everyone else seemed to have known each other since birth, Carl didn't find it hard to fit in as the new kid. His drawing skills made him a favorite with not only people who wanted drawings of their favorite comic and anime characters, but also people who wanted portraits.
He got along well with his classmates and even joined the school's basketball team, cementing himself as one of the popular kids in school. But he still hadn't found the mystery teen who was his first friend.
A few weeks into the semester, while he was playing basketball, he accidentally hit someone with the ball.
