Lukas, bewildered, asks:
"What's happening? Who? What could it be?"
Jake snaps at Lukas immediately:
"Dad, what did that man do to you? Tell us right now!"
Lukas—still confused and not even given a chance to ask questions—begins to recount everything, including the nightmare from that first dreadful day…
Jake grows furious. He cannot bear to hear what was done to his father.
Jake:
"So his name is Frank."
Lukas:
"Frank? Whose name is Frank, son? Who is that man? How do you know him?"
Jake (with anger):
"That evil bastard… Could be my father!"
Lukas is stunned by the claim. He looks at Emma in disbelief and then they quietly step outside.
Lukas:
"Wait a minute… Hold on, son."
Emma:
"What's going on?"
Lukas:
"Jake… You just found out you're adopted? When? From whom?"
Emma:
"Your father suddenly appeared with a DNA test. From what he described—his appearance has changed so much I barely recognized him. He used to be bald. He had facial surgery. It could be him… Then he threatened Jake: 'Either you kill Lukas or I'll kill your mother.' So Jake felt he had no choice but to shoot you."
Lukas:
"What? That man… Is that why he…"
Emma:
"Why what?"
Lukas:
"Never mind…"
Lukas is in shock and disbelief. Had the entire plan really been to torment and kill him? And how could Frank have returned after escaping from prison? It was confusing.
Now their only goal was to find a photograph of Frank's face—but they were fugitives. Helping a felon would bring severe punishment.
As they sat silently, a knock on the door startled them. Could it be the police? How could they have found them?
When the door opened, out stepped Harry, behaving as if everything was normal.
Harry (calmly):
"Hello."
Lukas was astonished—how had Harry escaped and tracked them down?
Jake drew a knife and started advancing on Harry.
Lukas grabbed Jake's hand.
Lukas:
"Stop! I know him."
Harry smiled faintly.
Harry:
"We were cellmates in prison. Now we're both escaped convicts."
Lukas:
"What, you escaped too? When?"
Harry:
"When you fled, I did too."
Lukas:
"How did you manage that?"
Harry:
"I ended up hospitalized."
Lukas:
"Did Frank attack you?"
Harry:
"No—something I caused myself."
As Lukas and Harry continued talking, they lost awareness of the others watching them.
Jake (voice shaking):
"Dad, who is this guy?"
Harry:
"I was your father's cell—"
Jake:
"Don't talk to me! I'm asking him—who is this man?"
Lukas:
"Enough already! Shut up! Harry was my cellmate. He's like a brother."
That triggers Alex. He feels betrayed. They promised each other: "You, and only you, are my brother." Now Lukas calls this new stranger brother. It hurts Alex deeply.
Alex (hurt and withdrawing):
"I'm going out to get some air," he says, leaving.
It feels like Lukas said it to hurt him deliberately.
Emma follows Alex out.
Lukas:
"How did he find us?"
Harry:
"I followed you."
Lukas:
"Unbelievable—wow, you're really full of surprises."
He laughs—something Jake hasn't seen in a long time. It unsettles him.
Harry produces a plastic bag.
Harry (offering):
"Here, friend."
Lukas:
"What's this?"
Harry:
"Your writings."
Lukas:
"You kept these? Thank you so much."
He hugs Harry. As they embrace, Emma and Alex return. Alex charges forward, furious—but Emma gently restrains him.
Alex:
"What's happening?"
Emma:
"Let them talk."
Alex:
"I'm the one he should be speaking to—I'm his brother!"
Emma:
"He hasn't smiled like this in so long… Let him be."
Alex's memories flood in. Lukas used to be so joyful. They were always teasing, joking, laughing. In the past two years, Lukas's life has crumbled.
Lukas has opened up to Harry completely—even about the day he stole bread.
Emma, Jake, and Alex watch from a distance, oblivious to the conversation.
Jake:
"What's Dad talking to him about for hours?"
Alex:
"I don't trust the guy."
Jake:
"Neither do I."
Emma (interjecting sharply):
"Quiet!"
She had been lip-reading. She drags Jake and Alex outside.
Emma:
"I heard something."
Jake:
"That's impossible. We didn't hear a thing."
Emma:
"I read his lips."
Alex (curious):
"What did he say?"
Emma:
"That he'll help find Frank's face."
Jake:
"How can you trust this man so fast?"
Jake storms back inside. Alex grabs him.
Alex:
"Don't do anything. We'll investigate first."
Jake:
"And just do nothing?"
Alex & Emma (in unison):
"If necessary, yes."
A few days later…
Alex starts digging into Harry's surname—even though it could cost him his detective credentials—it's worth it for the truth.
Everyone tries to uncover Harry's last name. Jake also plans to threaten him.
One night, while Lukas sleeps, Jake approaches Harry with his knife.
Jake (threatening):
"Tell me who you are, or I kill you."
Harry looks petrified—after all, Jake shot his own father.
Jake presses the knife's blade against Harry's throat.
Harry (shaken):
"My name… is Harry Jones. Please… stop."
Jake drops the knife.
Jake:
"I still have questions. Whose man are you? Who sent you?"
Harry turns to leave.
Harry:
"You're absurd."
Later, Jake gathers everyone outside and says:
Jake:
"I found his last name. Alex—you investigate."
Alex:
"What's the name?"
Jake:
"Harry Jones."
Alex breathes deeply.
Alex:
"Are you sure?"
Jake:
"Yes."
Alex pales.
Jake:
"What's wrong?"
Alex (shaken):
"Nothing… I'll start researching."
Alex races to the coop. In the shadows, a dark figure watches…
Jake and Alex step away from the coop.
Jake:
"Are you going to tell me?"
Alex:
"Tell you what?"
Jake:
"What I overheard."
Alex:
"Of course not. You'd go insane. We're not even certain—maybe the matching last name is coincidence."
Jake:
"Doesn't matter—he kept grinning!"
Alex:
"Not every smiling person is evil. You expect others to behave like you; life doesn't revolve around you."
Jake grew up in an abusive household. He never knew a peaceful childhood—parents always fighting. He dropped out of school. He's developed deep resentment toward happy people, because he never found happiness for himself. He can't understand others' joy.
That same night, at 4 a.m.
Alex sneaks from his bed after everyone falls asleep. He wakes Emma and takes Harry's backpack.
Emma (startled):
"Why are you doing that?"
Alex:
"We had detective IDs. If his is in there, he's that Harry."
Emma:
"Okay, you search—I'll watch outside."
Alex searches the backpack. Empty. He checks the outer flap. A wallet is tucked inside—with an ID. He knows he's right. He smiles—but then a crackling noise buzzes in his ear. Like an electric shock. A ghost-like figure appears and vanishes. Alex recoils in fear.
Emma finds him frozen in shock, pokes him awake. He instinctively pushes her away. Jake wakes and sees this. In enraged confusion, he punches Alex; Alex counters, and a fight erupts. Emma attempts to break it up. Jake's hatred erupts—he was about to seriously hurt Alex. Emma alerts Lukas.
Before Jake could continue, Lukas and Harry rush in. Even they struggle to restrain him.
Jake:
"He pushed my mother!"
When Lukas hears that, he loses grip. He charges at Alex on the ground. Emma shoves Lukas:
Emma:
"He was scared!"
Lukas:
"Scared of what?"
Emma:
"It felt like electricity. I approached him and he repelled me out of fear. That's it!"
Lukas:
"Why was he there at one in the night?"
Emma:
"I don't know…"
Harry speaks up from nearby:
Harry (hurt):
"This… This is my ID. This… is my stuff. Are you going through my things?"
Lukas:
"Why did you do that?"
Emma:
"I didn't. Alex is hurt badly now… ask him later."
Harry tries to explain.
But Jake grabs the ID.
Jake (yelling):
"What is this? You a detective?"
Harry:
"I used to be, yes."
Lukas (shocked):
"What?"
Emma:
"We just suspected it. I told Lukas…"
Harry (desperate):
"I'm not working for the police. I'm helping you!"
Jake (angry):
"Get out of here, Harry!"
Lukas says nothing this time—his trust shattered. Everything felt like a lie.
The next morning
They all decide to send Harry away together. Alex barely has time to process what happened before he's told Harry is gone.
Jake:
"We need to move the coop. Someone could give us away."
Lukas:
"Yes. We need to go somewhere else."
Alex (quietly):
"Are we just running forever?"
Jake:
"Yes. I want a normal life now. Mother—do you?"
Emma (shaken):
"Me?"
Jake:
"You didn't even know that bastard's name? Or were you not married? Was it a one-night stand?"
Emma slaps him hard.
Emma (firmly):
"Watch your manners! Don't speak without knowing things!"
Jake:
"Then what? No photo of him at all?"
Lukas steps in.
Lukas:
"Jake, quiet!"
At that moment Emma starts feeling dizzy.
Jake (worried):
"Mom, are you okay?"
Emma steadies herself, voice trembling:
"I… I was sixteen. I was raped. I got pregnant. I lost my family—so I didn't want to abort him. Two years later… he found me and demanded money. He said: 'If you don't pay, I'll kill the child'…"
Jake felt deep remorse. He'd never known his mother's suffering.
Lukas:
"Do you understand now, son? What your mother endured… Now be silent."
Alex mutters from his place:
"I hear… voices outside…"
Lukas rushes to the door. He opens it—Harry lies bleeding, someone has stabbed him. His last words barely audible:
Harry (weakly):
"That man… is very dangerous…"
And he collapses into Lukas's arms.
