Everyone went silent at the king's suggestion.
At the top of the royal castle was a specially made magic formation that would gather the power of the sun into a single location storing it as a flame.
Thanks to the formations on top of the castle, it could be used as a beam weapon if something was attacking the capital city or packaged in a container and dropped on top of a distant battlefield or city anywhere in the kingdom.
Doing so would decimate whatever it had been dropped on, erasing it in an instant.
However, it would only be unleashed as a weapon during times of national crises or under very unique circumstances. Within the Leighla Kingdoms history there were only three recorded instances of it being used due to its extremely destructive nature.
Although the main reason they rarely used it was because it took decades to gather enough sunlight to create a small sunflame, so using it to melt down a metal or ore was practically unheard of. No matter how little they used it would take years to restore the sunflame to full power again.
"Your Majesty the sunflame is one of our kingdom's ultimate weapons and isn't to be used lightly..."
King Roderick raised his hand silencing Forge Master Bron.
"I am well aware of its power and uses, I was alive the last time it was employed. I'm asking if it would be possible to melt that spear with it." He clarified.
Bron and Smith glanced at each other before walking over to the anvil and beginning to calculate just what temperature the sunflame could reach.
Even though it was one of the most destructive weapons in the world, that didn't mean that it could reach a high temperature.
The Empire also had a similarly destructive weapon, but theirs tore the ground out from under you throwing everything up into the air before dropping it on top of you.
Chronos was certain that other powerful nations had ultimate weapons too but due to their highly destructive nature they were rarely talked about much less used.
After the two of them finished their calculations, they turned back to the king.
"We have determined that a sunflame the size of a child's fist can reach the necessary temperatures to melt the spear if we focus its power within the forge." They reported.
"Hm, it would take 2 or 3 years to gather enough sunlight to form a sunflame of that size." King Roderick muttered.
A normal sized sunflame was the size of an adult and once formed it would be compressed for storage or kept in the formation if there was nothing suitable to store it in. Even for a nation as powerful as the Leighla Kingdom they only had a dozen storage containers for the sunflame.
Once in storage it would slowly lose its power, but it took centuries to be fully extinguished.
After considering the price and potential payoff King Roderick snapped his fingers. His personal butler stepped forward out of the shadows.
"Go to the formation and gather a sunflame the size of a child's fist and send someone to bring the star dream ore from the treasury. I want to see an artifacts creation today." He said with a smile.
"Yes, Your Majesty."
The butler backed out of the room leaving them staring at the king.
"Well, what are you waiting for? Don't you have preparations to make?" King Roderick waved them towards the door.
In just a moment Bron, Smith, and Quillfeather rushed out of the room running to gather the materials before the butler returned.
Left alone with King Roderick Chronos kept giving him a suspicious look.
He might have been Chronos' goduncle, but he had never been an extremely generous man or one to give treasures away for free. Normally if you wanted something from the king you would have to earn it.
"We're alone now. You can speak freely here," Roderick said, dropping the act of being a royal as much as he could.
"Why are you giving me the materials to make my spear?"
"Perhaps I'm just feeling generous." He replied with a mischievous smile.
Chronos raised an eyebrow at him, "In the sixteen years I've known you, you've given me numerous birthday gifts and rewards but all of that combined doesn't come close to what you're giving me now. Besides, you've never given treasures away for free a single time in your life."
Chronos stared at King Roderick until the man finally gave in.
"Haa, why do you have to be so suspicious? Fine, I'll tell you."
He fixed his gaze on Chronos as his regal demeanor returned.
"With the danger of the tears and the devils reappearing I'll soon need you to travel to other nations as an ambassador for peace heralding the ancient agreements."
Chronos scowled at his words.
It was true that many of the nations in the world were at war right now. But if an ambassador for peace, one that reminded the nations of their ancient agreements, started travelling around they could be brought to some semblance of order.
But it would be a very dangerous job with a high chance of death.
Many of those in the nations might want the wars to continue and even if they didn't the devils wouldn't let him travel about freely.
Telling him to do this job at his current rank was almost a death sentence, almost.
Still, that wasn't enough to explain using so many precious treasures on a young pup like him. The king could use those same treasures to hire a fourth rank or even entice a fifth rank powerhouse to do the same job.
"That can't be all of it. You're giving me a lump of star dream ore that is likely equal to a mid to large castle's construction and even using a piece of sunflame. During this trying time that's worth far more. There's got to be more to this than that," Chronos accused him.
King Roderick looked at him for a moment before turning sheepish.
"Maybe I just want to give you an early marriage gift." He mumbled.
Now Chronos looked genuinely confused.
"I'm not getting married, Gregory is."
"Are you sure? I didn't think you were the type of person that would abandon those you love. After all, if you don't marry that little Priestess Lyla, she'll be married off to a Marquis soon." Roderick slyly said.
"WHAT!?" Chronos shouted, looking like a bolt of lightning had struck him.
