Chapter 24 - Chapter 24: The Giant's Duel

Chapter 24: The Giant's Duel and the Eternal Flame

[SYSTEM MISSION: SURVIVE LITTLE GARDEN. RECOMMENDED ACTION: ENGINEER DEATH. ACQUISITION: BASIC GIANT PHYSIOLOGY / ENVIRONMENTAL ADAPTATION. SECONDARY GOAL: WITNESS ANCIENT DUEL.]

"Little Garden. Giants. Dinosaurs. This is a truly primeval place, and a chance for a massive-scale death. 'Basic Giant Physiology' would be invaluable for fighting giants, or 'Environmental Adaptation' for surviving hostile biomes. I need to get crushed by a giant, or eaten by a dinosaur, to truly experience the raw power of this ancient island. This is about understanding prehistoric might. Time to become a giant's plaything, and then come back with a deeper understanding of colossal beings."

After the chaotic revelations at Whiskey Peak, the Straw Hats, now accompanied by Princess Vivi and Carue, set sail for Alabasta, but not before a detour to the prehistoric island of Little Garden. This island was a living fossil, inhabited by colossal dinosaurs and two ancient, warring giants.

"Dinosaurs!" Luffy cheered, his eyes wide with excitement. "And giants! This is amazing!"

Nami, however, was terrified. "This place is a death trap! We need to leave!"

My compass, which had been pointing steadily towards Alabasta, now pulsed with a wild, untamed energy, reacting to the sheer scale of life on Little Garden. A new system prompt, emphasizing ancient power and massive threats, appeared in my mind.

[SYSTEM MISSION: SURVIVE LITTLE GARDEN. RECOMMENDED ACTION: ENGINEER DEATH. ACQUISITION: BASIC GIANT PHYSIOLOGY / ENVIRONMENTAL ADAPTATION. SECONDARY GOAL: WITNESS ANCIENT DUEL.]

"Little Garden. Giants and dinosaurs. This is a chance for a truly monumental death, something that emphasizes sheer scale and primal force. 'Basic Giant Physiology' would be invaluable for fighting beings of immense size. Or 'Environmental Adaptation' for surviving any hostile environment. I need to get crushed by a giant, or eaten by a dinosaur, to truly experience the raw power of this ancient island and absorb its essence. This is about understanding prehistoric might. Time to become a giant's plaything, or dinosaur chow, and then come back with a deeper understanding of colossal beings and how to thrive in the wild."

"Nami, dear, where's your sense of adventure?" I chuckled, already eyeing a particularly large dinosaur lumbering in the distance. "This is a living museum! And a prime opportunity for some... colossal learning."

As the crew explored the island, they soon encountered the two warring giants, Dorry and Brogy, locked in their eternal duel. The sheer scale of their battle was awe-inspiring, their blows shaking the island.

Seeing the opportunity, and knowing that a death from a giant would yield a truly unique skill, I subtly separated myself from the group, heading towards the giants' battleground.

"This is it. A death by giant. The ultimate blunt force trauma. I need to get caught in the direct path of one of their attacks, a full-power blow from a thousand-ton fist. This is about understanding sheer, overwhelming, physical might. This will give me 'Giant Physiology' or 'Environmental Adaptation.' Time to become a very small, very temporary, speed bump."

I positioned myself strategically, waiting for one of the giants to unleash a particularly devastating attack. Dorry, with a roar, swung his massive club, aiming for Brogy. I deliberately moved into the path of the swing, directly between the two giants.

"Hey, big fella!" I yelled at Dorry, just as his club descended. "Is that all you got?! My grandmother hits harder! And she knits with that hand!"

Dorry's eyes, wide with surprise, briefly flickered towards me, but his momentum was unstoppable. The colossal club, weighing hundreds of tons, slammed into me with the force of a small meteor. My Gum-Gum body stretched, compressed, and then simply disintegrated under the unimaginable pressure. It wasn't just a hit; it was a complete, instantaneous pulverization, leaving nothing but a faint, rubbery smear on the club. My consciousness was extinguished in a flash of blinding, overwhelming force, utterly annihilated by the sheer, unadulterated power of a giant.

[SYSTEM MESSAGE: DEATH RECORDED. KILLER: DORRY THE GIANT (COLOSSAL BLUNT FORCE). ABILITY ACQUIRED: BASIC GIANT PHYSIOLOGY. REVIVAL INITIATING. PLEASE WAIT.]

"Basic Giant Physiology! YES! This is incredible! I can feel it – an intuitive understanding of giant anatomy, their immense strength, their unique bone structure. This will be invaluable for fighting future giants, or even understanding large-scale creatures. And what a way to go! Time to pop back up and completely baffle a giant."

I gasped, sitting upright, perfectly whole and unharmed, lying on the ground near Dorry's massive foot. My body felt no pain, but my mind was alight with new information. I could instinctively visualize the internal structure of Dorry's leg, the immense muscle fibers, the density of his bones.

Dorry, who had just completed his swing, stared down at me, his massive eye wide with disbelief. "Little human! You are alive?! But I crushed you! I felt you flatten!"

"Oh, you certainly did, my giant friend!" I said, standing up and stretching, feeling the faint, new understanding of colossal anatomy. "A truly magnificent display of blunt force! I give it a solid 10 out of 10 for sheer impact! But you clearly underestimated my… resilience to being flattened. And now, thanks to your generous lesson, I'm also a little bit better at… understanding very, very large people."

Dorry stared, utterly flummoxed, then let out a booming laugh, shaking the island. "You are a strange one, little human! A truly strange one!"

The Straw Hats, who had been watching the giant duel from a safe distance, rushed over, having seen my "death" and subsequent resurrection.

"Adam! You're insane!" Nami shrieked. "You let a giant hit you?!"

"Just for science, Nami-swan!" I replied with a wink. "And now I understand giants better! It's amazing what you can learn when you truly commit to the experience. Now, about these dinosaurs… I wonder what kind of skill they might offer?"

The journey through Little Garden continued, with the Straw Hats eventually helping the giants and witnessing their bond. My new understanding of giant physiology, combined with my other skills, made me an even more formidable and adaptable force as the Straw Hats prepared for their next major destination: Alabasta.
