Chapter 17: The Byakugan's Fury
[Adam Yukimura POV]
Hiashi Hyuga. The head of the Hyuga clan. A master of the Gentle Fist and the Byakugan, even more so than Neji. His power, his precision, his overall intimidating presence – all things I wanted to "acquire." With my two deaths per person, I was ready to challenge the patriarch of the Hyuga clan. And perhaps, finally, get some truly advanced Byakugan skills.
"Hiashi-sama! The esteemed head of the Hyuga clan!" I called out, finding him overseeing a Hyuga training session, his Byakugan active, observing every detail. "Just the man I wanted to see! Your Byakugan! It's truly awe-inspiring! The way it sees through everything! It's like having a super-powered microscope, but for chakra! Do you ever use it to find dust bunnies?"
Hiashi turned, his Byakugan eyes fixing on me with an intense, almost chilling gaze. "Adam Yukimura. What do you want?" His voice was calm, but held an undeniable authority.
"Oh, nothing much!" I chirped. "Just a friendly spar! You know, for training purposes! I'm a Special Jonin now, and I need to hone my skills! And what better way to do that than by getting utterly annihilated by a true master of the Gentle Fist and Byakugan?"
Hiashi's brow furrowed. "My Gentle Fist is not to be taken lightly. It targets the chakra network. A direct hit could be fatal. And I will not hold back."
"Oh, I'm counting on it, Hiashi-sama!" I beamed. "Hit me with your best shot! Literally! I'm hoping to learn a thing or two about… well, about having my chakra network completely obliterated!"
We moved to a clear area. Hiashi, despite his initial reluctance, was an incredibly serious opponent. He moved with unparalleled grace and precision, his Byakugan active, observing my every move, even my chaotic "Predator's Stride" and "Reptilian Adaptation." I, of course, was strategically positioning myself for maximum impact, trying to force him to use his most powerful techniques.
My first target: his Eight Trigrams Sixty-Four Palms. I saw him move, felt the rapid, precise strikes on my chakra points. My chakra system seized up, my body went numb, and then, with the final strike, my heart stopped. Darkness.

I gasped, sitting up, my eyes feeling… different. I activated the rudimentary Byakugan. My vision shifted, becoming almost colorless, but I could see the faint, shimmering lines of chakra flowing through Hiashi and the other Hyuga. It was blurry, unfocused, but it was there. "Basic Byakugan! Excellent! Now I can probably, maybe, perhaps, see through walls! Or, you know, just subtly find all the hidden snacks in the village! The possibilities are endless!"
Hiashi stared at me, his Byakugan eyes wide with disbelief. "You… you just… activated a Byakugan. After being struck by Sixty-Four Palms."
"It's a gift, Hiashi-sama!" I chirped. "Now, about your Gentle Fist! I've always wondered, what does it feel like to have your internal organs gently massaged into oblivion? Is it like a profound sense of inner peace? Or more like a very aggressive chiropractic session?"
Hiashi, clearly bewildered, just sighed. "Unbelievable." He then used his Revolving Heavens. I, with practiced ease, "failed" to dodge, allowing myself to be caught in the spinning vortex of chakra. The force was immense, crushing every bone in my body, tearing my flesh, and pulverizing my internal organs. Darkness.

I sat up, reforming from the mangled mess I had been. My body felt… resilient. And surprisingly good at spinning. "Basic Chakra Rotation! Oh, this is fantastic! Now I can probably, maybe, perhaps, spin myself into a human top! Or, you know, just subtly deflect incoming punches! The possibilities are endless!"
Hiashi, utterly exhausted and bewildered, just slumped onto the ground. "I… I don't understand you, Adam-san. You're… you're just an abomination."
"It's a gift, Hiashi-sama!" I beamed. "Now, if you'll excuse me, I have some new skills to merge!"
I returned to my apartment, eager to experiment with my new acquisitions. "Basic Byakugan" and "Basic Chakra Rotation." This was going to be an interesting combination.
"System, merge 'Basic Byakugan' and 'Basic Chakra Rotation'!"
[ MERGE SUCCESSFUL! ][ NEW SKILL ACQUIRED: BYAKUGAN DEFLECTION (Active) - The ability to activate a temporary, focused Byakugan to perceive incoming attacks and subtly rotate chakra for a minor, localized deflection. ]
"Byakugan Deflection! Oh, this is fantastic! Now I can probably, maybe, perhaps, deflect incoming shurikens with my eyes! Or, you know, just subtly avoid getting hit by rogue ramen noodles! The possibilities are endless!"
My unique death count was steadily climbing.

Life as a Special Jonin was a constant stream of opportunities for self-improvement through self-destruction. And with "Byakugan Deflection," I was practically a walking, talking, eye-powered shield. Unless, of course, I wanted to be. Which, let's be honest, I always did.
