Chapter 77 - Chapter 77

Akashi got hired by the task force of the police station as a temporary guard in the operation of delivering the prisoners to the Earth Kingdom. It was a loophole that Lin used for one purpose, and it was to take him with her and spend time together.

Akashi wasn't an official member of the police force and was working under a temporary contract of three weeks with a small paycheck and no insurance.

And with that, he had two weeks in his hand to master his flying skill, currently was at level 3, and he needed to get it to level 4 as fast as possible. Then, he would use the remaining five skill points to increase it to level 9, which would leave him one level behind.

He knew that the max level wouldn't be short of extraordinary. To be able to fly freely with minimal chi consumption was something to aim for. And with his ability to remove air resistance from the surrounding air, arriving at any place in the world would be a matter of a short time.

Akashi could only dream about what it feels like to fly faster than an eagle and go anywhere in this world.

Anyways, flying was an amazing skill that allowed Zaheer to survive against Korra.

But it wasn't his only advanced form of airbending. There was that wavesbending, which level got increased, and he was today going to discover a few of its uses. With the level-ups, he felt that new doors opened before him. But he needed to step into these doors first to use his skill trees well.

Currently, he was at the yard that athletes use to run, and it was empty today because of the rain.

Each raindrop hitting the ground produced a wave with a ripple effect, and he could feel some sensation from it.

Akashi looked at his hand. 'Bending is basically Chi transferring through chi paths in the body. Once they leave, they turn into waves that make bending… could I bend it since it transmits through the air? No. I've been doing so since the beginning. But to bend it directly as it is. Let me try.'

Akashi waved his hand through his body, trying to make it follow the same path he had seen Zuko and Iroh do in the show. If he remembered correctly, it was about creating a chi path to discharge lightning.

Akashi slowly started gaining sensation about that energy.

And then, he released his finger and stopped.

He could sense something rippling through the air, invisible and almost non-existent to human senses, like the radio.

'I seem to realize if I had this power in the modern world, I could steal the Wi-Fi whenever I liked.'

Akashi repeated the movement, releasing the chi. And then, he amplified the wave.

The rain distorted, flying in different directions and changing their paths.

Akashi repeated this training. He learned that he could release the energy, amplify it, and manipulate it as if it were a sound wave or any other type of wave.

'So, creating a Kamehameha wave isn't impossible. I thought it was a childish fantasy at first. But no more.'

Akashi waved his hand, trying to move the chi through his body before aiming at the ground.

The chi transferred through it, getting amplified, and then, in no time, a long crack spread from it.

Akashi gave his stats a look. There was no new skill tree learned. Basically, he had achieved Chi bending, but he hadn't learned the skill.

And it was somewhat fair. After all, he didn't bend the chi itself. He released it in the form of a wave and used air to manipulate it. If, for example, he released it in the form of a ray, he wouldn't be able to do a thing to it.

With that in mind, the training session was concluded.

It had been two days since he had met with the chief, and it was time to get back to his house. Akashi floated in the air before flying. Without weights holding him, his speed was quite ample. Not too slow, but considerably fast—faster than moving with a car. Yet, he wouldn't be able to outrun an air, fire, water, or earth projectile heading his way at this speed. Nevertheless, he was improving every day, and that was what mattered.

In no time, Akashi reached his house, took a shower, changed, and grabbed a newspaper. He sat on the sofa and began reading.

He no longer had those work-related withdrawal symptoms.

"The mecha suits technology is being reverse-engineered by several companies. Sato Mobiles find the solution first… they make it seem as if they were not the ones who invented the mecha suits in the first place," Akashi muttered, reading through the headlines.

"Invention of planes that can travel faster than airships. This one is good… if he keeps delaying, I'd tell his daughter." Akashi thought about his hundred million. He promised that Hiroshi would be dead if he dared to mess with his livelihood.

The rest of the news hadn't been interesting, other than that an entrepreneur called Varrick was buying the rights to the newly invented filming camera.

And so, Akashi covered his face with the newspaper and was about to fall asleep.

When he opened the door, he found a tall green-eyed brunette girl standing.

"Asami?" Akashi said, tilting his head.

Why was she here?

"Hey. Akashi. Mind if I get inside?" she said.

"Sure."

She got inside and took off her shoes.

"Nice place, you live here on your own?" she asked.

"Yes," he said, his tone hinting that he was waiting for her to explain why she was here.

"How have you been?"

"I'm doing well, you?"

"Trying to get better," she said. She had broken up with her boyfriend, so it was obvious that she would need some time.

She extended her hand to him, holding an envelope.

"What is this?" he asked.

"These are the bonds my father promised you," she said. "He said that he would trust them with me."

"Oh. Right. We talked about it a while ago," Akashi nodded, understanding what Hiroshi meant.

They were bonds worth a hundred million now.

She looked at him suspiciously.

"How did you manage to convince my father to give all of this? Not because of the filming camera. It's not worth a hundred million," she said.

"I've gambled, got lucky, and talked to him. He said that his company needed some money, and so I decided to put my faith in him," Akashi said. "Look. Planes and robots. I'm getting my money back with a plus." Akashi smiled.

Hiroshi was too much of a gentleman. Not only did he give the promised hundred million, but he also gave him a fixed income from his company. It meant that Akashi had to protect that company in order to keep getting money.

And with the new inventions of Asami's father, that bond would definitely rise in price, and he would make a profit by the time he resold it. Or better yet, use it to take a huge loan from the bank and avoid the taxes.

"Just a piece of advice," Asami said, "Stop before it's too late. I know many people who turned poor because they had a gambling addiction."

"Thanks for your wariness," Akashi said. "Coffee?"

"Sure… where is the maid?" she asked.

Akashi chuckled, "We working class do our own chores."

She must know that, considering that she could take care of herself.

"Then I'd not like to trouble you," she said.

"Okay," Akashi replied.

There was an awkward silence for a moment.

'Why is she not leaving?' he thought.

Right.

"You wanna complain about your ex?" Akashi asked. He understood that it may be hard to find someone to complain to.

"Is it that obvious?" She forced a smile, with sad eyes behind it.

"Your face says it all," Akashi nodded.

Knock Knock.

"Oh. The door is open," said a feminine voice.

A brunette girl with a fit physique opened the door and stepped in.

"Hey! Akashi, you're here! It's quite rainy so I thought about hanging in your plac… Asami?" Korra entered and stared at the two in the apartment.
