Chapter 42 - chapter 42

Author POV

As time passes, things didn't stay the same.

Even if Y/N and Rabin now work under the same roof, their worlds—though close—rarely collided.

She was busy managing productions, new contracts, and endless meetings.

He was caught in scripts, shoots, and fame that only grew louder with every project.

Their interactions turned brief—

A quick lunch if lucky.

A text here and there.

A sleepy kiss before crashing on opposite sides of the bed.

But not once did their hearts drift.

And now—

A new event was pulling all strings together again.

A week before ——

The 25th Silver Jubilee of Shining Star Agency.

The biggest celebration in years.

A red-carpet evening where every top celebrity would gather under one glittering roof.

The agency was buzzing.

Paparazzi already camping outside.

Designers flying in.

Media swirling with guesses of who's attending with whom.

Y/N's office became the storm's center.

She stood in heels and a navy-blue blazer, flipping through the event checklist while sipping her third coffee of the day.

Assistant:

"Ma'am, the stylists for the red carpet need confirmation for Mr. Rabin's outfit."

She paused.

Y/N (softly):

"Just forward it to him. Let him choose what he wants."

A moment of silence.

She sighed.

Did he even know she was running this whole event?

Rabin's Dressing Room, Same Day

He scrolled through messages.

One from the agency assistant.

Another from the media coordinator.

One from a fan who apparently named their puppy "Rabin."

He smiled.

And then—

He paused.

No message from her.

He put the phone down.

Time skips to evening

The agency building buzzed with excitement.

Silver drapes, invitation mock-ups, celebrity arrival slots, red carpet prep—everyone was losing sleep over the 25th Anniversary event.

But in the middle of all this chaos…

Rabin sat in Y/N's office.

He closed the door behind him, shutting out the world. Just the two of them.

Y/N barely looked up from her laptop. She was on her third black coffee, finalizing the schedule for the stage performances.

Rabin:

"Babe."

Y/N (tired):

"Hmm?"

He walked closer, leaning his arms on her desk, face serious.

Rabin:

"Let's make it official."

She blinked, confused.

Y/N:

"Make what official?"

He met her eyes. Steady. No joke in his voice this time.

Rabin:

"Us. At the Jubilee. I want you to walk in with me. On the carpet."

She froze.

Y/N (softly):

"Rabin… you sure?"

Rabin:

"I'm sick of hiding. I'm sick of being edited into headlines with Raya. It was for the drama, I get it. But the show's over now. I want you beside me."

Y/N closed her laptop slowly.

Y/N:

"But what about the investors? Fans? Your PR team?"

Rabin (shrugged):

"Let them adjust. If they love me, they'll respect my choice."

He sat on the edge of her desk.

Rabin (grinning):

"I'm not dating a director, Y/N. I'm dating you. And I want the world to know."

She stared at him for a moment—heart racing.

Y/N:

"You really want me to walk with you?"

Rabin (playfully):

"Yes. And you better wear something that makes Raya's jaw drop."

She laughed, finally — tension breaking.

But deep inside, something warmed in her chest. Not because of the fashion comment. But because Rabin chose her. Not in private. Not in whispers. But publicly. Proudly.

Later That Night — Y/N's Apartment

She looked through her wardrobe. Tossed dress after dress aside.

Nothing felt right.

She opened her drawer and found an old black-and-white polaroid.

It was from years ago — the night before she left for university. They were sitting in the Porsche, hand in hand, laughing.

She smiled.

"Let's give them a story to remember."

3 Days Before the Jubilee

Author POV

The agency hallways were dressed in silver and midnight blue. Banners fluttered, rehearsals echoed in every room, and tension walked beside every staff member.

But behind the scenes, not everything sparkled.

Raya's Dressing Room

Raya POV

She stared at the latest tabloid post:

"RAYA & RABIN – STILL THE IT COUPLE OF THE INDUSTRY?"

She scoffed.

Raya (gritting her teeth):

"Still the it couple? What a joke."

Her manager walked in.

Manager:

"You need to prepare your lines for the panel talk at the Jubilee—"

Raya (coldly):

"Change of plans. I want my entry with Rabin. Got it?"

The manager hesitated.

"But… Rabin's walking in with Y/N."

Raya stood up, lips curling.

Raya:

"Let's see how long that lasts."

Meanwhile — Rabin's Apartment

Rabin POV

Y/N was sorting through a few accessory options, and Rabin watched her from across the room.

His phone buzzed.

Raya: "Rabin… we should talk. Alone. Urgent."

He locked the screen without replying.

Rabin:

"Do you think the gold earring or the diamond studs would look stronger on you?"

Y/N (teasing):

"You just want me to look intimidating in front of your ex-almost-PR-lover."

They both chuckled.

But Rabin knew something was brewing.

And Raya wasn't someone who took defeat quietly.

2 Days Before the Jubilee

Raya goes public

At a last-minute press call arranged mysteriously at the studio…

Raya stood with a mic, media swarming. She was dressed flawlessly, her fake tears perfectly timed.

Raya:

"I just wanted to clarify — Rabin and I were always close. And even though things are unclear now… I still have feelings for him. I'll support him, no matter what decision he makes."

Shutter clicks explode.

"Do you mean you two broke up?"

"Is he cheating on you with someone ?"

Raya only smiled faintly and walked off.

Social media ignited like wildfire.

Later That Night — Y/N's Office

She sat at her desk, face unreadable. Rabin stormed in, breath heavy.

Rabin:

"I swear I didn't know about that press stunt."

Y/N (calmly):

"I know."

Rabin:

"Do you… believe what she said?"

Y/N turned to him — tired but not weak.

Y/N:

"I trust what we have. But Rabin…"

She stood, walking to him.

Y/N (firm):

"Tomorrow, we're going to show them that your story isn't hers to write anymore."

Rabin nodded.

1 Day Before the Jubilee — Dress Rehearsal

Raya tried once more — cornering Rabin in the green room.

Raya:

"Don't do this. You and I — we made sense. You're ruining your image. What can she give you?"

Rabin stepped back.

Rabin (soft but clear):

"She gave me a life. A home. Not an image."

He turned to leave but paused.

Rabin:

"See you on the carpet, Raya. From the crowd."
