Chapter 27 - TASTE OF FREEDOM

Sleep doesn't come.

No matter how many times I turn over, how tightly I clutch the sheets, my mind won't quiet. The room is dark, the air heavy with the faint scent of lavender candles that Lily made. It usually soothes me, but tonight, it only feels stifling. My omega keeps stirring inside, restless, whimpering in waves I can't suppress.

His voice won't leave me. "And what about you? You follow their rules. You do their bidding. Does that make you free?"

It echoes again and again, sharp as the arrow that tore through his shoulder.

I squeeze my eyes shut, but the memory refuses to fade. His face pale, bleeding, yet still so defiant, flashes behind my eyelids. The way his golden eyes looked at me, not with hate this time, but with something worse: truth.

Because he was right.

I've never been free. Not for a single day.
