Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: The SHIELD Signal

Previously: Peter Parker woke up in a new Marvel universe with a system, a sarcastic AI called Dumas, and a chance to rewrite destiny. But the world isn't quite the one he remembers…

---

Peter stood atop a rusty water tower in Queens, gazing out at the New York skyline. The wind felt crisper, heavier — like it carried the weight of a thousand possibilities.

> 📘 SYSTEM STATUS:

Power Copied: Adrenaline Overdrive

> 🧠 AI DUMAS: "Hey genius, standing still won't upgrade your stats. Go punch a mugger or something."

Peter sighed. "You're really going to narrate my life, huh?"

> DUMAS: "Welcome to the live-action tutorial. Let's start with your next threat: incoming surveillance drone."

"What?"

Before he could react, something buzzed behind his neck. Peter spun mid-air and grabbed it — a hovering black sphere, no bigger than a tennis ball.

It projected a hologram: a calm, one-eyed man in a trench coat.

"Peter Parker. You're out of your time. And your world."

Peter narrowed his eyes. "Nick Fury?"

The hologram blinked.

"SHIELD has eyes everywhere, kid. You're exhibiting multiversal radiation. You're not from this dimension, and we need to talk. Come quietly."

Peter stared at the image, eyebrows raised.

"You want me to come quietly? I'm seventeen, I just came back from the dead, I'm being followed by a robot ball, and your last version called me a menace every week in the Bugle."

> DUMAS: "He means the version of you who died six months ago. Kid didn't even last through Civil War."

Peter's blood ran cold.

🏢 S.H.I.E.L.D. Substation — Brooklyn Dockyard (Hidden Level 3)

Peter walked through a scanning chamber, arms raised. The agents were tense. A few wore tactical armor, holding rifles that glowed with Stark tech energy cores.

Nick Fury walked out, hands behind his back. "You're lucky we picked up your signal. If HYDRA found you first, this world would already be rubble."

Peter smirked. "Let me guess. Alternate me died. You needed a Spider-Man. Now I'm here. Surprise! I'm not that one."

Fury didn't blink. "No. You're not. But your DNA is a match. So's your school record. Your Aunt May is alive in this world — barely."

Peter froze. "What?"

Fury tapped a tablet. "Heart condition. Works two jobs. Hospital visits aren't covered. She's at Roosevelt right now."

Peter's mouth tightened. That wasn't supposed to happen. Not to May. Not again.

Fury saw the emotion flash across Peter's face.

"We can help. But first — I need to know what's in your head. You knew the drone was coming. You scanned our weapons on sight. You're not just a teenager."

> DUMAS: "Don't say anything. They're scanning mental patterns. Play dumb."

Peter shrugged. "I've read a lot of comics. I know how this goes. SHIELD brings me in, promises help, puts a tracker on my back, and waits for me to turn into a villain."

Fury paused. "…you're not wrong."

🧪 S.H.I.E.L.D. Briefing Room

A large screen showed Peter's bioscan next to a glowing red figure — his "alternate" self.

Agent Hill spoke first. "This version of Peter died during the Skrull Invasion six months ago. He sacrificed himself to destroy a Skrull sleeper cell."

Peter blinked. "Skrull invasion already happened here? That's early…"

Fury nodded. "Things are accelerating. The multiverse is shifting. It's like… stories are overlapping."

> DUMAS: "Timeline convergence. Nexus bleed. This place is unstable."

Fury looked Peter dead in the eye. "We've seen incursions. Realities merging. We call them Nexus Collisions. You're the first Spider-Man we've recovered who's stable."

Peter exhaled slowly. "So what now? You put me in a lab? Lock me up?"

Fury slid a card across the table. Avengers Reserve Program.

Peter picked it up. Gold trim. Stark's logo. Underneath: "Candidate Status: Pending Approval."

"I don't join teams," Peter said. "Not this time."

"Why?"

Peter's eyes went cold.

"Because the last time I did, I died."

🕸️ Later that night — Queens Rooftops

Peter watched the city again. His system pinged softly.

> 📘 SYSTEM UPDATE:

Hero Rank Increased: D → D+

Trait Gained: "Webmaster" – Web fluid is now molecularly adaptive. Binds to energy-based armor for 5 seconds.

New Power Available: "Multiversal Glimpse" (Cooldown: 24h)

Use this to preview other timelines — or enemies from alternate Earths.

> DUMAS: "You've got mail. From reality."

Peter activated it — and saw something horrifying.

---

🌌 Vision: Earth-9800 (Multiversal Glimpse)

A dark version of New York burned. Avengers Tower was impaled on a cosmic spear. The sky rippled — and floating above it all…

A corrupted version of Peter Parker.

Black and red suit. Glowing spider-emblem. Six mechanical limbs like a spider-god. His voice echoed across realities.

"You abandoned your destiny, other me. Now I'll take it all — across every Earth."

> DUMAS: "Oh. Well. That's horrifying. Meet… you. But evil."

Peter's breath caught.

His own voice replied, cold and distant:

"You are not worthy of the Web."
