Chapter 5 - Chapter 5: His own plan

Isaac's POV

Ingrid was trained to be a killing machine and follows a specific rhythm. That's who she is. No one can stop her when she sets on something.

She's one of the foes that I've been trying to seize. She's the reason why I can't completely destroy her dad's group. She looks away and moves away from me.

"I don't care if it's stupid. I am determined to do that. Therefore, you are welcome to have side chicks if I'm not someone that can satisfy your needs. But don't forget our deal, Mr. Midnight," Ingrid says.

I laugh and cross my legs. She has no idea that I've never had a woman in my bed after her dad killed my wife. I saw her yawning.

"Can you go to your bed so I can sleep now?" she suggests.

I frowned and gave her a meaningful glance. "Really? You offered your body, but you'll sleep on the couch? Are you dumb or what?" I ask.

Ingrid frowned too. She stood up and headed to the bed. She chose the right side and covered herself using the comforter. I didn't move and just looked at the ceiling for a couple of minutes.

I feel like the loud smoke and sound of explosion from James's armory were flashing on the ceiling. Ingrid Alberto did that to her own father.

She's a scary woman, but… I raise my finger and look at my wedding ring. This is the second time that I have worn one.

I put my wedding ring on my late wife's finger on the day of her funeral. All their belongings were also cremated along with them.

I wonder if she will hate me after I promised that I won't marry anyone again. I stood up and lay down on the left side. I look at her back.

She's being cautious. I better not touch her stupidly, or else I'll lose my head out of nowhere. I close my eyes and take a rest.

The next morning, she was silently eating her breakfast. "Am I eating with a ghost or what?" Emilia commented.

I summoned my best friend here. She came as early as she could. She's always been like that. "You're not. By the way, meet my husband. You know who he is," I stated.

Her jaw drops, and she starts swinging her knife. She looks at me, then to Isaac. "I indeed know who he is, but really? What kind of self-introduction is that?!" she exclaimed.

"I didn't summon you here for that. I want you to be with me. Be part of his group and serve him even after my death," I remarked.

Emilia's expression turned cold. She cut the meat and started chewing it. I know she's aware of the conflict that I started with my dad.

"Now you're dragging me with you after you planned a suicidal revenge mission?" Emilia says, scoffing.

She gives me a death stare. "Are you serious right now? You already got the chance to leave that hell. Why can't you just live?!"

She drops her cutlery and bows her head. I know she's trying to calm her emotion. "We both know that the only way to stop my dad is death. You know that, Emilia."

She groans and smacks the table. "Exactly the point! I already disagreed when you told me that you'll marry Isaac Midnight to bring, and now you still continue your stupid plan? Are you dumb?!" she roars.

I coughed. That caught their attention. They look at me. "If the two of you will just growl at each other, having this conversation is stupidity," I coldly stated. They both shut their mouths.

I sighed. "I didn't force anyone who wants to join my mafia group. If he has the talent or not, he will have work to do, and he or she'll have a corresponding salary. Now, what do you want, Ms. Jones? Join my group or not?" I ask.

Ingrid looks at her friend. They exchange meaningful glances. "Before we proceed, Isaac, this is Emilia Jones, my best friend. She's an elite assassin. She will be an asset to your mafia group. I assure you that."

"Like me, she's aced her skills. We are tandem, actually, but I stopped her from joining Alberto Pierro. I guess my instinct already warned me," she explains. Emilia sighed.

"You're doing this to protect me, right? I know you more than you know yourself. You knew that their target after what you did is me," she says.

Ingrid's sad smile had softened the gaze of Emilia. They're really close to each other. "That's true. I hope you didn't mind helping my friend, Isaac," I stated. My wife shifts her gaze at me.

"You already heard what I said. She can join Midnight Stride if she's willing to do so," I respond.

"I will if you promise me that you will fight to live, Ingrid. After we stop your father, let's leave this place. Maybe if we can enter Bhutan, then let's start our life again in that place," she says.

She raises her left hand and sticks out her index finger. My wife was just staring at Emilia's hand.

"Place your right hand on the table. I know you might cross them while acting like you really agree with my condition," she says.

Ingrid places her hand on the table and raises the left one. They sealed their promises. "Don't worry. I will protect you," Emilia says.

I can tell it from her eyes. Ingrid might be willing to live, but she will use her life to protect the innocent lives that will become her dad's victims.

I feel bad for her. She was born in the wrong family. "The two of you, I want you to investigate this group's activity for tomorrow. They will be helping a syndicate in shipping illegal drugs on four continents. I want you to stop them and call Interpol to stop this transaction," I remarked.

I place a folder on the table, which I was hiding behind me since we started eating. They grab their copies and put down their utilities. Emilia stops reading and look at me.

"Wait, are you sure you want Interpol to be part of this instead of stealing the goods?"

I give her a serious expression. Ingrid speaks. "I wonder why your group's activity was weird, but I never expected this kind of twist and turn, Isaac," my wife says. Emilia brushes her nape.

"She's right. This is strange!" she yells.
