Chapter 9 - The Price of Power — Unexpected Consequences

The morning after the duel, the city of Yuncheng was buzzing with electrifying news.

Li Zhen had won.

Not just a victory over Chen Hao — but a declaration that the "poor student with a system" was now a powerhouse beyond the reach of traditional elites.

Social media exploded with praise, memes, and fanfare.

Li Zhen woke to thousands of notifications flooding his phone — friend requests, business inquiries, sponsorship offers, and viral video shares.

His Live Wild Club app had surged to the top of the download charts overnight, and investors were already knocking on his virtual door.

But amidst the celebration, a cold shadow loomed.

10:00 AM — WeiCorp Headquarters

Fang Wei sat in his office, staring down at the news articles.

"Li Zhen wins again," he murmured.

His phone vibrated. A secure call came through.

"Boss," his aide said, "we've traced some irregularities. It appears the 'Shenhao System'—or whatever powers this Li Zhen—is being monitored by government cyber units. They're concerned."

Fang's eyes darkened. "So the system is attracting attention. That's… bad."

Meanwhile, at Yuncheng University

Li Zhen walked through campus, a hero to most.

Girls smiled at him openly, professors greeted him warmly, and students asked for selfies.

But a group of security officers quietly shadowed his movements from a distance.

He felt it before he saw it.

That afternoon, a letter arrived—sealed with a government insignia.

It read:

"Mr. Li Zhen,

Due to recent extraordinary financial activities linked to an unverified 'Live Wild' system, you are required to attend an inquiry at the Municipal Regulatory Bureau within 48 hours.

Failure to comply will result in legal action.

Regards,

The Financial Oversight Committee."

Li Zhen stared at the letter, lips twitching.

"An inquiry?"

System Notification:

"Host, government oversight is a new challenge. Recommend gathering legal counsel and preparing for reputation defense. Cashback rewards may be temporarily suspended during investigation."**

He laughed dryly.

"So, the higher I climb, the harder they try to cut me down."

That evening, in his penthouse, Li Zhen met with his new legal advisor—Ms. Chen Yue, a sharp, no-nonsense lawyer known for defending high-profile clients.

"Mr. Li," she said, eyes piercing, "this is serious. The authorities don't usually target students unless there's suspicion of fraud, money laundering, or illegal system use."

Li Zhen smiled. "I'm clean. I have proof of every transaction, and this system is... well, let's just say it's 'unique.'"

Chen Yue raised an eyebrow. "Unique or not, your financial spikes have triggered alarms. We need a strategy—fast."

Two days later, at the Municipal Regulatory Bureau

Li Zhen sat across a panel of stern-faced officials.

They asked questions about his sudden wealth, the mysterious system, his business dealings, and the authenticity of his finances.

Li Zhen answered confidently, providing tax documents, transaction logs, and his app data.

But one question lingered.

"How do you explain the source of your cashback? It defies conventional logic."

He hesitated only briefly before replying, "Let's say I have an... unconventional advantage."

The room fell silent.

Outside, reporters swarmed.

"Li Zhen attends government inquiry!"

"Is the 'Live Wild' system legal?"

"Financial mystery or tech miracle?"

His social feed exploded with support and skepticism alike.

Back at his penthouse, Li Zhen leaned back and reflected.

System Alert:

"Host's stress levels rising. Recommend activating 'Mental Fortitude' skill."

"Warning: Legal scrutiny may affect cashback and influence gains for next 7 days."**

He exhaled deeply.

"This is the price of power."

But even as challenges mounted, Li Zhen knew one truth:

To live wild was to embrace the storm.

And storms, no matter how fierce, always passed.
