Chapter 66: Premiere Opening
On Christmas Day, the premiere of Honkai I: Poem of the Wind was held. As he had promised Elysia, Yaqing, however reluctant, had to attend the event with her.
In a certain dressing room, Elysia, having changed into a pink formal gown, sat as Eden, slightly bent over, applied her makeup with a smile. It was worth noting that Eden was also wearing a noble black formal gown.
"Eden, my dear Eden, for today's premiere, I am your date~?"
"Mm," Eden replied with a smile.
Eden, of course, knew Yaqing's intentions—to use her status as a world-class singer to build hype for the new movie. But she didn't dislike the feeling. If Yaqing had said it outright, she would have felt uncomfortable. The way it was now was best, with both sides understanding yet maintaining a silent agreement.
In another dressing room, Mobius had put on a fresh green long gown, her long green hair coiled up. A golden earring hung from her left ear. She was to walk the red carpet with Yaqing as his date.
"What a bother," Mobius said, uncomfortably shaking the earring on her left ear.
"Doctor, if it's really uncomfortable, you don't have to wear it," Yaqing said, dressed in a high-end suit, tying his tie in front of a full-length mirror.
Mobius frowned.
Yaqing, now fully dressed, looked at the snake who was so bored she had started playing with her own hair. He said helplessly, "Doctor, please don't twirl your fingers in it. It's a pain to put it up."
Mobius lowered her hand.
Mobius was beautiful without makeup, her skin fair and tender. It was just that due to long nights of experiments, her eye bags and dark circles were a bit severe. Yaqing sighed and pulled Mobius over.
Mobius was bewildered, subconsciously being pressed into a chair by Yaqing.
"What are you doing?"
"Don't talk."
Yaqing picked up the high-end cosmetics on the dressing table, skillfully opened a jar of eye cream, and gently applied it under Mobius's eyes. The cool sensation made Mobius close her eyes.
"When did you learn to do makeup?" Mobius's tone held a strange hint of jealousy.
"I learned it at the Golden Courtyard," Yaqing subconsciously used his most common and simple answer, but the moment the words left his mouth, he realized his mistake.
"Hmm?" Mobius's beautiful eyes became dangerous.
"Eden taught me," Yaqing said without a hint of panic, patting foundation onto Mobius's pretty face as he spoke.
Mobius was still suspicious, her face full of disbelief, but because of the foundation being applied, she couldn't open her mouth to question him.
"Alright."
In just ten minutes, Yaqing put down the cosmetics. Mobius opened her eyes and looked at herself in the mirror. Her mouth fell slightly agape. With the help of the makeup, the small wrinkles from staying up late were concealed, and the pink blush on her cheeks was like an apple, making one want to take a bite.
"You..."
The premiere began. Yaqing had booked an entire screening hall, giving many tickets to everyone at the Golden Courtyard and to Theresa. Yaqing and Mobius sat towards the back; neither of them were fond of crowds.
"Brother Yaqing."
Hearing someone suddenly call his name, Yaqing looked towards the voice. A little girl with pink hair, one of the two tots following behind Aponia, trotted up to him.
"It's you, little Kong. Long time no see," Yaqing said, ruffling little Kong's head.
"Long time no see, big bro Yaqing," the gray-haired boy said, his hands in his pockets.
"Brother Yaqing," the black-haired boy said, looking more composed.
"Lyle, Adam," Yaqing nodded and ruffled the two boys' heads as well.
"It's Teacher!" Kong said, surprised to see the woman who had just entered, wearing a baseball cap and a black mask that covered her whole body. She waved her hand. "Goodbye, Brother Yaqing!"
Although Kong looked gentle, the moment she left, the two boys followed right behind her, with Lyle looking particularly disgruntled.
"Are those the children from Aponia's sanatorium?" Mobius had never been to the orphanage Aponia ran, so she had no impression of these children.
"Yes," Yaqing smiled.
Sitting on the other side of Mobius, Elysia was happily chatting with Eden.
Kevin, holding Mei's hand, sat in the last row.
Mei sat next to Eden.
Kevin waved to Su. "Come sit here, Su."
Su's mouth twitched. He was painfully aware of the situation. The last row was either couples, lesbians, or people in a state of ambiguous romance. What was a single dog like him going to do there?
So, Su ignored Kevin's wave and sat three rows in front of him, next to the sisters, Sakura and Rin.
Sitting in the front three rows, in the best viewing position, Kiana kept turning her head, which soon caught Mei's attention. "Kiana, what are you looking at?" she asked, puzzled.
Mei also wanted to turn around and look, but Kiana stopped her.
"Shh, Mei, don't look back," Kiana said nervously.
Mei was even more confused.
Bronya once again showed off her extraordinary hacking skills. Tapping out code on her phone, she easily pulled up Mobius's public information online.
"Mobius, director at World Serpent Technologies, graduated from Nagazora University, obtained four doctoral degrees during her university years, with extremely high achievements in biology and chemistry. By status, she should be Yaqing's senior from university," Bronya said in her unique, flat tone.
"Senior? I don't think so," Kiana laughed mischievously, a truly demonic sound.
"Are you guys talking about Mobius?" Senti suddenly interjected.
"Yeah, Senti. Do you know what's up?"
Kiana and Senti were separated by Raiden Mei. Senti flicked Kiana on the forehead good-naturedly, ignoring her yelp of pain, and said with her head held high, "Don't call me Senti. You have to call me Big Sis Senti!"
"Mmmph..." Kiana rubbed her forehead.
"I heard, and this is just what I heard," Senti said with a malicious grin. "I remember at the Golden Courtyard, I heard someone say that back in university, Mobius pursued Yaqing aggressively."
"Really?" This time, even Fu Hua was curious.
Everyone looked at Senti.
"It's true. I can prove it," Su's voice suddenly sounded, startling everyone.
"And you are?" Mei asked.
"I'm Su. Also Yaqing's university roommate."
"Ooh, hello, Uncle," Kiana said, scratching her head.
"Pfft," the sisters, Sakura and Rin, couldn't hold back their laughter.
"It's Su, not 'shu' (uncle)," Su said, a dark line on his forehead, but he still began to tell them about their university days.
A glint of wisdom flashed in Kiana's beautiful eyes. She carefully took out her phone, sneakily took a picture, and sent it to their "Happy Family" group chat.
Queen of the Void: Tuna, what's this picture? When did you start a side gig as a paparazzo?
Conqueror of the Sea of Quanta: Sirin, don't call me Tuna! I heard, and this is just what I heard, that this pretty green-haired big sister once pursued my darned old uncle.
Queen of the Void: Hah? What a shame. So young and already blind.
Flower of the Snowfield: Really? That's wonderful.
☆Divine Key: Might of An-Utu☆: That's so cool! Brother Yaqing is so charming!
Black Abyss, White Flower: ...
The lights in the screening hall dimmed.
"The movie's about to start!"
