Prologue

SHADOW OF THE WOLF

PROLOGUE

Is revenge really a dish best served cold? What is a person supposed to wait for before seeking vengeance? Does food still have any taste once it's gone cold? Can you truly enjoy it? Here's the real question: who are you taking revenge on? There's always someone visible who caused you pain. You think you've won the war. "This time I did it, I succeeded, I kept my promise," you say. But what if you still don't feel at peace inside? Are you being greedy? Has your thirst for vengeance turned you into a killing machine? But to you, it doesn't matter how you look from the outside. What matters is that when you look in the mirror, you feel no guilt. Your conscience is clear, and you move on.

But on this path of revenge haven't you been a little selfish? Didn't you only think about your own pain and ignore how it affected those around you? Maybe this was the right way in your eyes. You'd keep them from physical harm, at least. You were so emotionally wrecked that only thunder and rain could understand what a "feeling" even meant to you.

You're sure that once you've had your revenge, you'll feel a sense of triumph. In this chain of events, you've learned well not to stop or look back. If you stop, your enemies will only get farther away. Do you want to catch them? Grab them by the throat and scream? Then don't stop! You're stronger than they are. Smarter. Don't forget whose son you are. And more importantly, don't forget who you are. Don't run from the version of you that lives inside. Accept us. We are one, and we always will be. The more you try to escape, the closer I will come. We are one. We will win together. And if we die, we die together.

You are Yusuf Turgut. Fear has no place in your story. Neither does running.

If we die what do we lose? You'll die as someone who gave their life for a cause. Isn't that better than being a cowardly corpse rotting in fear? Make your choice.

I'm not afraid. I'm not running. I'm right here.

I'm coming to be your death.

I'm not smiling. I'm coming to burn you with my gaze.

I am Yusuf Turgut, and I swear I'm coming for revenge.

I'm coming to make you pay for what you've done, with your lives.
