Andrew agreed at noon. Not enthusiastically. Not confidently. He agreed the way someone agrees to test the temperature of water with their toes, already prepared to yank back at the first sign of cold. Tina did not let the moment breathe. By one-thirty, she had keys in her hand.
"Wow."
Andrew said from the passenger seat as the gates creaked open.
"Zero buffer time. Love that for me."
Tina shot him a grin, sharp and bright and unapologetically pleased with herself.
"You said yes. I'm not letting the universe change its mind."
"That is not how the universe works."
"That is exactly how the universe works when I'm involved."
