Chapter 5 - Chapter 5: Xiao Wu

Wu Tong paused at the door, his brow furrowing.

If I remember right... in the original story, this was Tang San and Xiao Wu's dormitory.

Did the academy really cram all its working students into a single room?

He shook his head, dispelling the thought, and pushed open the weathered door—

—only for a pink blur to barrel toward him.

The figure skidded to a halt, revealing a girl of six or seven.

Her silken hair—long enough to brush her waist—was tied into a playful braid. Amber eyes, bright as polished gemstones, sparkled with mischief and curiosity, drinking in the world with unquenchable thirst.

Skin like fresh snow, flawless and luminous. At her throat hung a pendant: a tiny rabbit nibbling a carrot.

Xiao Wu.

No doubt. The future love interest of Tang San, Douluo's Child of Destiny, stood before him.

"Hey, you!" She planted her hands on her hips, tilting her chin up. "You the new work-study kid?"

Behind her, a dozen pairs of eyes locked onto Wu Tong—gleeful, expectant. They knew the script.

Dormitory boss.

Wu Tong's lip curled inwardly.

The labels netizens had given her in his past life flooded back: Arrogant. Brattish. Thrives on chaos. All charm, no substance.

"Listen up!" Xiao Wu jabbed a finger at his chest. "I'm Xiao Wu—boss of Dorm Seven. From now on, you're my little brother. Call me 'Big Sis Xiao Wu'!"

"Okay, Big Sis Xiao Wu."

Wu Tong's reply was bland as water.

No point resisting. With zero combat experience and a non-combat martial soul, provoking her was suicide.

Just humoring a child, he told himself.

Even if that "child" was 100,000 years old.

"Everyone!" Wu Tong raised his voice, addressing the room. "I'm Wu Tong from Panyan Village. Innate full soul power—with a body-type martial soul."

At "full soul power", envy flashed across their faces.

At "body-type", it curdled into disdain.

Only one boy—plain-faced, lurking in the corner—murmured, "Body as a martial soul? How's that work…?" He made a mental note to ask the teacher tomorrow.

Wu Tong ignored their stares. He'd braced for this the moment he learned how the world scorned body souls.

Dodging Xiao Wu, he claimed an empty bunk and began unpacking.

The spectators scattered, disappointed by the lack of drama.

Thud!

Xiao Wu stomped her foot, rattling the floorboards, then flung herself onto her bed and yanked the blanket over her head in a dramatic sulk.

Wu Tong didn't spare her a glance.

Once his bedding was arranged, he grabbed his toiletries and headed for the baths.

The stickiness of travel clung to his skin like a second layer. A hot shower was overdue.
