Chapter 399 - Chapter 399: An Engineering Miracle

"We attacked a diplomatic mission, provoked a military conflict, and attempted to frame another civilization. These actions are unforgivable," President Alexander Caesar declared solemnly. "We are willing to accept full responsibility and provide appropriate compensation."

Thunderous applause erupted throughout the grand hall.

It was not the mockery of victors celebrating the defeated, but the heartfelt celebration of peace finally arriving.

Prime Minister Derek Morrison responded with equal sincerity.

"We accept the apology of Planet Tana One and are willing to work together to usher in a new era of peaceful coexistence. The hatred of the past should be buried. Our future must be built on cooperation."

Under the witness of Rowan and Silvermoon, the two leaders formally signed the Permanent Peace Accord of the Tana System.

In addition to the primary peace clauses, Rowan proposed several specific compensation requirements.

"Commissioner," President Caesar began cautiously, "don't you think these reparations are somewhat..."

His voice trailed off under Rowan's sharp gaze.

"Mr. President," Rowan said calmly, though his tone carried unmistakable authority, "compared to the cost of a full-scale war, these reparations are insignificant. Had total war broken out, your losses would have been thousands, perhaps millions of times greater."

"And," Silvermoon added, "these compensations serve another purpose. They ensure the agreement is taken seriously. Concrete obligations create concrete commitments to peace."

President Caesar glanced around the solemn hall. Memories of Rowan's overwhelming power resurfaced in his mind, and eventually he could only nod helplessly.

"We accept these terms," he said heavily. "I hope they will serve as the foundation for lasting peace between our two worlds."

The signing ceremony concluded amid enthusiastic applause.

When the two leaders shook hands in reconciliation, countless viewers watching the live broadcast across both planets burst into tears.

"Peace has finally come," an elderly citizen of Planet Tana Two told his grandson. "Your generation will never have to fear war again."

On Planet Tana One, although some criticized the president's "concessions," far more citizens felt relieved.

"We paid a price," one mother told her friend, "but at least there won't be a war. My son won't have to die on the front lines."

After the ceremony, Rowan and Silvermoon prepared to leave the Tana System.

Their mission had been completed.

Peace had finally arrived.

"Commissioner, are you leaving already?" Prime Minister Morrison asked reluctantly.

"Yes," Rowan replied with a smile. "Our work here is done. The rest depends on all of you. Remember, peace is something both sides must protect together."

"We will cherish this hard-earned peace," Morrison promised. "The Galactic Peace Organization will always be our friend."

President Caesar also approached to bid farewell.

"Commissioner, thank you for helping us avoid a catastrophe. We will strictly uphold every clause of the agreement."

"I hope so," Rowan nodded. "If conflict ever arises again, remember today's lesson. Violence is never the best solution."

Amid the farewells of countless people, Rowan and Silvermoon boarded their return vessel.

"This mission was a complete success," Silvermoon summarized as the ship departed. "The process was far more complicated than expected, but the result couldn't have been better."

"Indeed," Rowan said as he gazed at the stars beyond the viewport. "I only hope this peace lasts. The universe needs more understanding and cooperation, not conflict and war."

After leaving the Tana System, Rowan and Silvermoon's spacecraft cruised steadily through the cosmos.

The atmosphere aboard was considerably lighter. After successfully completing such a difficult mediation mission, both felt a profound sense of accomplishment.

"It's finally over," Silvermoon sighed, leaning back comfortably. "This mission was much more complicated than we anticipated, but the outcome was worth it."

"That's true," Rowan agreed while reviewing their flight route. "We encountered many unexpected problems, but in the end, we prevented an interstellar war."

"Especially your display of power," Silvermoon recalled. "You completely shocked everyone. That was the first time I've ever seen you fight at full strength. A force like that would terrify any lower-level civilization."

"Power is only a tool, not a goal," Rowan said modestly. "If problems can be solved peacefully, I'd prefer never to use force."

"That's exactly why you're such an exceptional mediator," Silvermoon said sincerely. "You possess enough strength to deter your enemies and enough wisdom to pursue peace."

At that moment, the ship's communication system chimed.

"Incoming long-range transmission from headquarters," the communications officer reported. "It's probably about the mission."

"Put it through," Rowan said as he walked toward the communication console. "It's time to submit our report."

Moments later, a familiar figure appeared in the holographic projection.

Department Director Claude.

He wore an expression of anticipation.

"Rowan, Silvermoon," Claude said through the interstellar connection. "How did the mission go? We've received some reports from the Tana System, but we'd like to hear directly from you."

"Director, I'm pleased to report," Rowan said formally, "that the conflict in the Tana System has been completely resolved. Both sides have signed a permanent peace agreement, and the threat of war has been eliminated."

Claude's face immediately lit up with surprise.

"Really? That's far faster than we expected. Can you explain what happened?"

For the next hour, Rowan and Silvermoon gave a detailed report.

They described everything: the initial investigation, the discovery of the truth, the military confrontation, and the final signing of the peace treaty.

"Incredible," Claude said after listening to the entire report. "Not only did you prevent a war, but you also persuaded the aggressor to apologize and accept responsibility voluntarily. That's nearly unprecedented in diplomatic history."

"The key was demonstrating sufficient strength," Silvermoon added. "Once Planet Tana One understood our true capabilities, their attitude changed immediately."

"Rowan's actions at the critical moment deserve special recognition," Claude praised. "Driving back an entire fleet single-handedly is exactly the kind of deterrence that can preserve peace."

"I simply did what needed to be done," Rowan replied humbly. "Protecting peace is our responsibility."

"In addition to resolving the conflict," Claude continued, "you've brought tremendous prestige to the company. News of the Tana System Peace Accord has spread throughout the galaxy. Many civilizations are praising the Virtual Universe Company's mediation capabilities."

"That's excellent news," Silvermoon said happily.

"More importantly," Claude analyzed, "this case sets a benchmark for future missions. Other civilizations facing conflict will now be far more willing to accept our mediation."

Hearing headquarters' praise, both Rowan and Silvermoon felt deeply satisfied.

Their efforts had been recognized.

Peace had been preserved.

"So," Claude asked, "what are your plans now? Will you return directly to headquarters, or do you have something else in mind?"

Rowan and Silvermoon exchanged a glance.

They had already discussed this.

"Director, we'd like to take a short break before returning," Rowan said. "This mission was intense, and we'd like some time to relax."

"Completely understandable," Claude nodded. "You both earned it. Any specific plans?"

"We're planning to spend several days at Reno Harbor," Silvermoon replied. "It's a famous port world with excellent recreation and supply facilities."

"Reno Harbor? Excellent choice," Claude laughed. "It's one of the galaxy's greatest trade and tourism centers. You should enjoy yourselves."

"We'll stay there for about a week before returning to headquarters," Rowan explained.

"No problem. You've earned your vacation," Claude said approvingly. "The company has already begun preparing your commendations. There will be an official ceremony when you return."

"Thank you, Director," Rowan and Silvermoon said together.

"Then enjoy your stay at Reno Harbor," Claude said with a smile. "Mission complete. Well done."

The communication ended.

The atmosphere aboard the ship became even more relaxed.

The pressure of the mission had vanished completely.

Now came the vacation.

"Headquarters' reaction was even more positive than I expected," Silvermoon said happily. "Looks like this mission was extremely important to the company."

"Yes," Rowan agreed. "And we're even getting an awards ceremony. But for now, we can forget about work and focus on relaxing."

"Speaking of Reno Harbor, this will be my first visit," Silvermoon said excitedly. "I've heard it has the largest shopping complex in the galaxy and the most beautiful artificial beaches."

"It really is a special place," Rowan explained. "It started as a barren asteroid, but after centuries of development, it became one of the galaxy's busiest ports."

"What makes it so unique?" Silvermoon asked curiously.

"Diversity," Rowan answered, recalling his previous visits. "Merchants, travelers, and adventurers from every corner of the galaxy gather there. It's essentially a miniature version of galactic civilization."

"That sounds amazing," Silvermoon said eagerly. "We can try food from different civilizations and buy some unique souvenirs."

"And the entertainment is exceptional," Rowan added. "They have gravity-simulation extreme sports, full-immersion virtual reality experiences, and all kinds of artistic performances."

"Then we need a proper itinerary," Silvermoon declared enthusiastically. "We can't waste this rare vacation."

The spacecraft continued its journey.

According to the navigation system, they would arrive at Reno Harbor in approximately six hours.

"Oh," Rowan suddenly remembered. "We should book a hotel. Accommodation at Reno Harbor is usually difficult to find, especially luxury hotels."

"I'll handle it," Silvermoon said immediately, opening the reservation system. "How about an ocean-view suite? We can enjoy the artificial sea."

"Excellent idea," Rowan agreed. "If we're on vacation, we should enjoy the best."

After searching for a while, Silvermoon found a highly rated five-star hotel.

"The Blue Star Grand Hotel," she announced. "Prime location, private beach, and world-class spa facilities."

"Sounds perfect," Rowan nodded.

After booking the hotel, they began planning their vacation.

"On the first day, we'll rest at the hotel and enjoy the spa," Silvermoon said. "On the second day, we'll explore the central shopping district and experience products from different civilizations."

"On the third day, we can visit the Ocean Park," Rowan suggested. "It has marine life from countless worlds."

"On the fourth day, we're trying extreme sports," Silvermoon declared excitedly. "I've always wanted to experience zero-gravity bungee jumping."

"Are you sure?" Rowan asked cautiously. "That's considered dangerous."

"Don't forget our strength," Silvermoon said confidently. "It should be perfectly safe for us."

"Fair point," Rowan laughed. "Then let's do it."

"On the fifth day, we'll visit the arts district," Silvermoon continued. "I've heard they exhibit works by the galaxy's greatest artists."

"And the concert halls," Rowan added. "They host musicians from different worlds every night."

"That sounds like the perfect vacation," Silvermoon said contentedly. "Being able to relax like this after work is wonderful."

Time passed quickly.

At last, their spacecraft approached Reno Harbor.

Through the viewport, they could see the breathtaking sight of the famous port world.

Reno Harbor truly lived up to its reputation.

The entire planet had been transformed into a colossal artificial environment. Vast azure oceans covered its surface, while countless skyscrapers rose along the coastlines.

Most spectacular of all was the enormous orbital station encircling the planet, serving as the primary harbor facility where countless spacecraft docked and departed every minute.

"It's incredible," Silvermoon exclaimed in awe. "No wonder it's called the Jewel of the Galaxy."

"Yes," Rowan said, equally captivated. "This represents the pinnacle of humanity's environmental engineering. Transforming a barren asteroid into a world this beautiful truly is an engineering miracle."

Their spacecraft began descending through the atmosphere.

The quality of the artificial atmosphere was extraordinary, even cleaner and fresher than that of many natural worlds.

"Welcome to Reno Harbor," air traffic control announced. "Please proceed along the designated flight corridor to the civilian docking terminal."

Looking down from above, they could see the planet's meticulously planned cities.

Ocean, land, and urban civilization blended together in perfect harmony, creating a breathtaking masterpiece.
