Underworld.
In Grigori, a handsome middle-aged man with black hair streaked with gold sat, holding a well-organized report in his hands.
"Oh~ It seems those hikikomori Shinigami have decided to step out of their shells," muttered Azazel, Governor General of the Fallen Angels, as he stared at the report before him. Although the Soul Society was isolated from the rest of the Underworld by a barrier, it was not completely impervious. Many technologies could bypass it, especially since it allowed Souls to pass through.
Thus, even though there was no direct contact between the factions, they could still access each other's information.
"It seems three Captains have defected, and their leader is of Ultimate-Class strength, and they have joined the Khaos Brigade." Despite Azazel's playful tone, his dark and serious gaze betrayed his true thoughts; it was clear he was not pleased.
For Azazel and many other supernatural factions, the existence of the Khaos Brigade was a thorn in their side—they attracted the powerful from other factions and carried out terrorist activities across the world.
Unfortunately, no one knew their true base of operations, and rumors suggested the Khaos Brigade was led by Ophis, the Infinite Dragon God—a force no faction dared to confront recklessly.
"Moreover, they obtained the Hōgyoku, an artifact of immense power comparable to the Longinus in raw strength but far more dangerous due to its wish-fulfilling abilities, albeit limited." At the mention of the Hōgyoku, Azazel's eyes gleamed with greed. He had hoped to acquire it for study, but that was impossible. He had no knowledge of how it was made, as that information had been sealed and forbidden to the Shinigami for centuries.
As for its current possessor, who must have created it, they were under Ophis' protection. No matter Azazel's courage, he dared not attack someone under Ophis' guard, although things would be different if the other party struck first.
Azazel continued reading the report carefully, then set it aside, resting his chin on his hand and staring into the void contemplatively.
"Damnation will spread soon," muttered Azazel with a heavy sigh. It seemed that every faction had chosen the worst possible time to move. Even Sekiryuutei and Hakuryuukou of this generation had already been born, with one siding with the Devils and the other with the Fallen Angels.
Normally, Azazel would have been extremely confident dealing with other factions with Hakuryuukou at his side. But now, he felt as if walking a tightrope—any wrong move could plunge him into the abyss, as other factions would not hesitate to attack the Fallen Angels for a piece of the pie if something went awry.
He tossed the report aside and picked up the next one, which contained detailed information about Aizen, while other reports contained intel on his companions, even on Ren and Ichigo.
"Although the Soul Society has lost three Captains, they have gained three others, who seem very capable. Reaching Ultimate-Class may not even be their limit," muttered Azazel, staring at the reports on Ren, Ichigo, and Tatsuki. "And it seems one of them wields Longinus: Incinerate Anthem."
"This is extremely troubling…" whispered Azazel, gazing at the image of Tatsuki, a girl who had previously possessed almost no spiritual energy, now suddenly holding one of the strongest Longinus of the modern generations.
"I wonder if the Shinigami would be willing to join a three-faction alliance…" muttered Azazel, his eyes fixed on Ren's file. Despite Ren being the most fearsome of the three, Azazel sensed he might be the easiest to deal with, as he had been a notorious womanizer for years—someone he could perhaps negotiate with.
"But for that, we must communicate with the Shinigami and reach some kind of cultural exchange or agreement," Azazel's brilliant mind quickly began working to devise a plan to establish a friendly relationship with the Shinigami faction. Their power was immense, and neither the Angels nor the Fallen Angels stood a chance. Even with Takamagahara's support, the Devils would not move easily against them.
"If this succeeds, we might establish a new power axis… or at least create a balance to deter chaos," said Azazel, reaching for his cigar on the table. He lit it calmly, drew a deep breath, and stared at a small holographic screen showing a 3D image of Ren training within the Soul Society.
"Three-faction alliance + Shinigami = a nightmare for the Khaos Brigade." He smiled slowly. "And for me… a fascinating experiment worth trying."
With that thought, Azazel decided to accelerate the upcoming peace conference of the three factions, even intending to invite the Shinigami. Even if they did not accept immediately, they would see it as worth considering upon witnessing the three factions leaning toward an alliance.
Azazel was not the only one examining reports on the Shinigami faction. Angels, Devils, Onmyōji families, the twelve Demon Slayer families, and other factions were also recalculating their positions considering the Shinigami—or Gotei 13—including Takamagahara, as the former Amaterasu had alerted many deities, prompting a council to deliberate the matter.
