Chapter 8 - The Vial 01

She read the letter and looked up to see the man standing and shaking like a dry leaf on a windy day. She looked down again and re-read the whole content.

Then she beconed her hand, "Xavier"

"Yes, madam?"

She passed the letter to him, "Read this and answer me, what has gone wrong? My eyes or the human brain?"

Xavier silently scanned the paper while she stared at the man, who was probably having a seizure by then. He was doing everything to not look into the bloody red eyes of the woman sitting on the other end of the room. Xavier sighed and put the letter on the desk.

"It is most certainly the human, my lady."

"I know, right?" she leaned on her chair, still glaring at the poor man, "It has been so long, perhaps they forgot who we are. So tell me, good sir. What did they teach you about us? I am genuinely curious."

"T-they..."

"They? They what?"

"T-they are v-ery dang-erous a-and..." he gulped.

"And?"

"A-and they will... they will k-kill you i-if you l-look in-to their e-eyes..."

She finally moved her eyes from the shaking man and looked at Xavier, crossing her arms, "They are on the right track, though."

"It seems so, madam."

"Hey, you!", the soul of the man almost departed then and there, "Who is your king?"

The man started to announce like a parrot, "Our king, His Majesty Leorion the Second, is the sun of the kingdom of-"

"No no not, ah forget it." She messaged her temple with her hand, "Take him away."

That was it. That was how he was going to die. Not even in his motherland. However, it was alright. He died for his country. He died for his king. It was all that mattered anyway. That was how the life of a soldier should be. He stood in the hallway waiting for death to arrive.

But to his surprise, the guard named Xavier handed him another letter and almost drove him out of the castle. His horse was waiting along with some other men.

"Go away. And a little piece of advice." Xavier took the man by the collar, "Tell your King to think 'twice' before sending something stupid like this."

The man frantically nodded. As soon as he was freed, he rode off without even glancing back for once. He was coming back from hell.

He was a hero in his own world already.
