Chapter 58: A Trip To Diagon Alley
Harry and Petunia went inside the Leaky Cauldron.
He turned to look at his aunt. "You will wait for me. Is that clear?"
"H-here?." The lanky woman glanced around the place. There were only a few old wizards and witches having a drink at the bar. "I could wait somewhere el—"
"I said here." Harry repeated. "No matter how long I take, you will wait here. And if you don't…"
"I-I'll wait here," she hurried to say, not having forgotten what happened to her husband the night prior.
"Good. Looks like you can be more useful than that oaf you married." After saying his part, Harry left the tavern and entered the alley.
His first stop was at the bank, where he proceeded to take a large bag of galleons from his vault.
His next one was at the biggest bookstore, where he requested several tomes with a common theme… the Ministry of Magic. Unfortunately, Hogwarts' library did not contain enough information about all the history and inner workings of the magical government. At least not as much as needed for his purpose.
Harry required a clear map of the building, depicting all the different areas and departments. And, if possible, what kind of security measures it had.
Once he was done spending money on a dozen books, he visited Madam Malkin's Robes so he could get something appropriate for his visit to the Ministry in a month's time.
He had to be ready by then, as he was not likely to get another opportunity like this one to infiltrate the museum and steal that demonology book.
Without it, recovering his former forces would take too long.
In his previous life, he had spent many decades obtaining his army of inhuman followers, and he was not going to be satisfied with just reaching his old level… he wanted to push things further this time and become even more powerful than before.
For now, he only had the dementors and those two witches, but with some time and effort, he would grow his army once more.
"Dear, are you listening to me?"
Harry realized that he had been too distracted with his own thoughts and had stopped paying attention to Madam Malkin after going into her shop.
"Pardon, could you repeat the question?" said Harry.
"I was merely asking you what kind of robes you were requiring." The woman asked with patience.
"Formal ones. I will be attending an important event at the Ministry of Magic. Money is not an issue, give me the best you have." He was not very concerned about overspending the money he currently had.
In the future, there would be many opportunities for him to amass wealth. He was sure of that.
Only around an hour had passed since his arrival at the alley, and Harry had completed most of the shopping, but there was still one more shop he wished to visit, this one in Knockturn Alley.
Trying his best not to bring attention upon himself, Harry ventured into the darkest part of the alley, using all available fragments of the memories he had to find his way.
Borgin and Burkes was the antique shop where the original owner of the body had accidentally traveled to. From what he could recall seeing in those memories, this shop might contain something useful for his current situation.
He wasn't sure of this, but it was definitely worth the trip to check it out.
Despite his best efforts, he did not manage to completely avoid the stares from the locals, as these would rarely see someone as young as him walking through the dark alleys alone.
However, regardless of the attention he drew, none of them approached him before he found the shop he was looking for and went inside.
A languid old man with long grey hair was reading the newspaper behind the counter and barely paid him any mind as he entered.
Harry also proceeded to ignore him and went to check the items on the shelves.
"Hmm…" He carefully observed what was on display on the many shelves of the shop.
All sorts of items had been placed on them, but the more Harry looked, the more displeased he felt.
"What the…" Harry picked up one of the items. It appeared to be a mummified hand with four fingers.
"Oh, that is a magical wish hand." The shopkeeper was now paying attention to Harry and decided to say something when he noted the expression on his face.
"A wishing hand…" Harry muttered before approaching the counter.
The shopkeeper smiled. "Indeed, I just got that item last week. Only twenty galleons."
"It appears that the impression I got from this shop was warped by the mind of a child." This was the conclusion Harry reached.
When young Harry arrived at this shop before his second year, the feelings of wonder and fear had been engraved into his memories.
"Excuse me?" The shopkeeper looked confused. He didn't understand what Harry was saying.
Harry slammed the hand on the counter with all his might, crushing it almost completely. "I'm saying this is trash!" he shouted at the old man.
"How dare you!" The shopkeeper immediately became enraged at Harry's mischief and lack of respect. "You are going to pay for that." The man already had his wand in hand.
"No, but you are going to pay for wasting my time with all this fake garbage." If there was something he truly disliked, it was the feeling of being deceived, and that was exactly how he felt right now.
He couldn't really blame young Harry for getting the wrong impression, but he could certainly blame this shopkeeper for having deceitful products.
The old wizard pointed his wand at Harry, while this one didn't move from the counter.
"You better have some money, boy. Because if you don't compensate me f—"
Before the old wizard could even finish his sentence, Harry's hand moved swiftly to grab hold of the wand, taking it away and pointing it back at him.
The next instant, the shopkeeper found himself being pushed with tremendous force against the back wall, hearing his bones crack.
"I believe it is You who is going to compensate Me…" Harry's eyes held no mercy as he looked down at the shopkeeper.
