Chapter 66: A Short Family Vacation
The night before the house explosion.
"Where are we?!" Vernon looked startled after the change of scenery.
"A forest?" Petunia and Dudley were in the same state.
A moment before this, Harry had made them hold onto an old boot that used to belong to Vernon. And then, they found themselves in the middle of a forest while still holding onto the few bags of clothes they managed to put together on such short notice.
"I wanna go home…" Dudley looked ready to start crying.
"Come on." Harry pointed at the wooden cabin in the clearing. "This will be your vacation home. Let's go inside."
"I-I don't want to…" Dudley responded.
Petunia and Vernon became alarmed, as they knew how little patience this "Harry" had for disobedience.
"Oh?... you don't like my house? It's very cozy." Harry turned to Dudley, and he was immediately startled by the look in Harry's eyes.
Even someone with as little intelligence as Dudley could tell that he was in danger. They were in the middle of nowhere with a crazy wizard who had a taste for torturing people.
"I-It's a… It's a beautiful house." Dudley hurried to say.
"Is that so? Then let's go inside." Harry's mouth contorted into a smile, but there was no warmth or joy in his eyes.
Petunia and Vernon shared a glance before taking another look at the forest around them.
"Don't think about it. That forest extends for many miles, and there are dangerous wild beasts inhabiting it. You wouldn't last for an hour in there." Harry warned them after reckoning their intention.
Despite the threat hanging in the air, Petunia and Vernon had the same feeling of dread when looking towards the wooden cabin. One that told them that if they went inside that house… they may never come out again.
"Harry… whose house is this?" Petunia asked, trying to delay things.
"I already told you. It's mine." Harry responded. "Now get inside. My generosity is limited when it comes to you, disgusting muggles."
Vernon grabbed hold of his son before he could walk to the house. "No! I say we've had enough of you! We are leaving, you hear me?!" He pointed at Harry with his finger in the most threatening manner he could muster.
"Vernon!" Petunia exclaimed in horror.
"I see." Harry stored his wand back in his pocket. "I'll tell you what. I'm going to give you a chance." He opened his arms widely. "No magic. See if you can take me down… then you can leave with your family."
"N-no magic?" Vernon glared at him with suspicion.
"I am a man of my word. And as you can see, I am holding nothing in my hands… you won't get another opportunity like this one."
"Dad!" Dudley tapped his father on the arm, making him react.
Vernon clenched his fists and took off, charging at Harry… the fastest he could.
Harry did not move from the spot and chose to watch the man with amusement.
With his enhanced body, he could take Vernon with ease in a fair fight, despite the weight and age difference.
'Where is the fun in a fair fight?' Harry could never understand that.
Magic coursed through his veins and manifested in the palm of his left hand.
When Vernon was only a couple of feet away from him, Harry made a cutting motion with his fingers, running it from his belt to the top of his head.
Vernon let out a strange guttural noise as his body became completely frozen while his eyes were wide open in shock and horror.
"Vernon?!"
"Dad!" Petunia and Dudley looked at Vernon with concern. They couldn't quite see what Harry had done and could only watch the man's back.
It took a few seconds for something to occur. A vertical red line appeared in the middle of Vernon's face and continued all the way down to his crotch.
Blood then began to pour like a geyser, and Vernon's body split into two halves, each one falling to one side.
Petunia let out a sharp shrieking noise, and Dudley was too horrified to let out even a single scream.
Harry did not move from the spot, so his face and robes became covered in Vernon's blood. But the smile never left his face.
He walked forward, passing in between the two pieces of Vernon and stepping on his entrails.
"If only you had bothered to learn anything about the magical world… perhaps you would have become aware that some wizards are capable of performing magic even without their wands." Harry's words were addressed to Petunia, but she barely reacted.
His attention then shifted to Dudley. "I was going to let you live a bit longer, had you been able to behave yourselves. But no matter… You are no longer useful to me." He pointed his index finger at his cousin.
"Terebrum." From Harry's finger, a small shard of light formed before shooting out like a bullet, aimed towards Dudley.
The boy had no time to react as the piercing curse went through his head, entering on one side and exiting on the other.
Dudley's mouth was wide open and his eyes lost their luster. It took a moment before his body collapsed on the ground.
And it also took a moment for Petunia to realize what had happened, since she was yet to recover from the shock of seeing her husband split in half. Now she just saw her son dying.
The woman let out a screech of agony so sharp and loud that Harry was forced to protect his ears.
"Silencio!" He placed a charm over her to shut her up.
Harry sighed. "Much better…"
Petunia glared at him with pure hatred in her eyes.
"In the end, you are the only one I needed alive."
She heard Harry speak before he waved his hand at her and produced a red spark of light.
When the spell hit her body, her vision turned dark, and she felt nothing else afterwards.
