Chapter 71 - Chapter 71: The Transaction with Bofoi

In the original work, after A City was destroyed, the mechanical army controlled by Bofoy rebuilt the entire city on its ruins in just ten days. This terrifying efficiency was something no traditional construction team could ever match.

Kaito had promised the original residents free new homes and vehicles, and that promise needed to be fulfilled as soon as possible. Putting Bofoy in charge of the reconstruction would not only finish it at an astonishing speed but also ensure construction quality far beyond ordinary standards — saving effort and worry. Exchanging a harmless technical duplicate for the rapid rebirth of an entire city seemed like an extremely worthwhile deal from any perspective.

Kaito did not want to waste any more energy arguing with the Association or waiting eight or ten years for reconstruction matters. Thinking this through, he had already made his decision. He raised his head and fixed the robot with a sharp look.

"A deal? We can talk," he said. "However, Bofoy, your 'price'… must satisfy me."

The robot under Bofoy's control fell silent for a moment, then replied, "I can offer an equivalent technical exchange, or… certain special… services."

(Bofoy's "special service" is providing war machines. Those who thought otherwise should go stand in the corner.)

"Rebuild A City," Kaito stated directly, setting the condition. "I want you to complete the reconstruction in the shortest possible time, to the highest standards."

"King, rebuilding A City is a massive project. My mechanical army can complete it, but it requires resources. I provide reconstruction services, and you provide access to the spaceship's core technology. An equivalent exchange."

"Equivalent? Bofoy, have you misunderstood something?" Kaito toyed with the meatball seal in his hand without lifting an eyelid, his voice cold. "This ship, and everything in it, is my spoils of war now. Your so-called 'reconstruction service' is, in my eyes, at most a trivial admission fee for your previous robots' attempt to take advantage of the chaos."

It turned out that just now he had received a message from Tornado via telekinesis. She had found Bofoy's robots in the spaceship, crushed them with her telekinesis, and thrown them out. Kaito emphasized "my" deliberately — exposing Bofoy's prior intention to lay claim to the ship. Since the other party had tried to freeload from the start, he felt no shame in extorting him heavily.

"The previous action was standard procedure, intended to assess threats and recover valuable assets," Bofoy answered, trying to downplay the situation and gloss over the earlier attempt to freeload.

"Ha!" Kaito scoffed. "Standard procedure? Evaluating someone else's property without the owner's permission — Bofoy, do you think I'm stupid, or are you stupid?!"

"King, my actions were rash before. I admit my mistake, and I am willing to apologize after this transaction is concluded." Bofoy discarded dignity and focused on profit, promptly admitting fault.

"Now, let's formally discuss the transaction," the robot continued. "Rebuilding A City will consume a large amount of energy and materials, and it will also take up a lot of my valuable research and development time. Therefore, exchanging part of the spaceship's key technology — like the spatial jump engine or the main cannon energy core design blueprints — I think this price is very reasonable."

He tried to frame "part of the technology" as the content of the exchange and emphasized the investment required.

Kaito looked the robot dead in the optics. "Part? Bofoy, you don't seem to understand the situation yet. This isn't a vegetable market where you can pick and choose. What you want is the fruit of the entire spaceship's technology tree! As for your cost…" He paused, and his tone turned even colder. "That's your problem. Remember, you are asking me now — asking me for an opportunity to access this alien technology. The initiative is in my hands."

"My condition is simple: you, Bofoy, will use all of your mechanical army, without compensation, to rebuild A City exactly as it was, at the fastest speed and highest standards. Remember, it's free of charge. Don't talk to me about cost consumption; that's the price you must pay to get this 'admission ticket.'"

A brief silence followed as the robot — and Bofoy behind it — ran a rapid calculation of gains and losses. After a few seconds, the mechanical voice returned, slightly quicker, betraying a hint of urgency.

"Free of charge? King, this demand is too harsh! I can undertake the main reconstruction work, but material costs and energy consumption must be borne by the Association or—"

"No deal!" Kaito cut him off decisively. "Materials? There's plenty in the ruins — you recycle them yourself! Energy? That's your problem! My demand is clear: you, Bofoy, rebuild the entire A City for free. As for the standard…" A non-negotiable smile played at his lips, "All returning residents will be given free, fully furnished housing no less than one hundred square meters, with basic furniture included. Additionally, each household will be provided with a reliable vehicle. If even one square meter is missing, one screw is missing, or one car is missing, our deal is void. You won't get a single byte of data."

"Furnished? Furniture? Vehicles?!"

Bofoy's voice was full of shock and disbelief. "King! You're being outrageous! This goes beyond the scope of 'reconstruction'! This is simply—"

"This is simply what?" Kaito took a slow step forward. "This city was destroyed by an alien invasion, and the spaceship is the spoils of war. It's only right to use it to restore the citizens' rightful lives. Or…"

He deliberately drew out his words, his tone carrying a quiet menace. "Do you think those alien technologies you covet so much aren't worth this price? Or perhaps you think… you can snatch them from my hands?"

The final words pierced like ice picks. The robot instinctively took half a step back.

Far away in his laboratory, Bofoy's expression turned sour. He knew all too well how terrifying Kaito and his group were.

The battle between Saitama and Boros on the moon had already been enough to shake him to the core — not to mention the subsequent appearance of that million-meter-tall phantom. His life detectors had recorded that the moment the giant phantom clapped its hands, tens of thousands of life forms aboard the spaceship vanished — beings whose power had rivaled Tiger-level monsters.

Such destructive force had long exceeded the limits of science. It was simply unfathomable.

Bofoy knew very well that trying to seize anything by force was impossible. But those alien technologies — especially the spatial jump system — were too irresistible.

After a long silence, as if wrestling with himself for a dozen seconds, Bofoy finally gave in.

"...Understood. I accept the condition of 'free' reconstruction of A City, and will meet your housing and vehicle standards."

He clenched his jaw. In his view, it was already excessive. Ordinary people didn't need luxury — a roof over their heads was more than enough. Yet now he was being forced to provide fully furnished homes and cars? It was humiliating.

Still, he swallowed his pride.

But Kaito wasn't done yet.

A small, victorious smile curved his lips. "Very good. However," he continued slowly, "the data will not be given to you now. I'll have Tong Di lead a team to conduct a comprehensive assessment, organization, and… screening of all the spaceship's technologies. Once he confirms which technologies are 'safe' and 'suitable' to be handed over to you, you'll receive a data package."

"Screening?!" The robot's mechanical voice sharpened. "King! This is a breach of contract! We agreed on technical data!"

"I said 'data package.' I never said 'all' data."

Kaito spread his hands casually. "We have to exclude some forbidden technologies that might endanger Earth's safety, or ones even you can't control, right? Things like… self-destruct systems, or alien viruses. Don't worry — Tong Di is your student. He'll make a very professional judgment."

He smiled faintly. "After all, we have to be responsible for Earth's safety, don't we, Dr. Bofoy?"

Another suffocating silence followed.

Bofoy was furious — the so-called 'harmless treatment clause' was nothing but a leash around his neck. Yet he knew, better than the Association's bureaucrats, that in the face of absolute power, he had no room to negotiate.

Getting even a fraction of the technology he desired was better than leaving empty-handed.

Finally, the robotic voice returned, low and tight:

"...Understood. I will immediately initiate the reconstruction program. I hope Tong Di's 'assessment' won't take too long."

It was a near-total concession — an acknowledgment of defeat.

"Pleasure doing business, Bofoy."

Kaito reached out and patted the robot's oval head twice, almost playfully. "I trust your efficiency. I'm looking forward to seeing A City's new look."

With that, Kaito turned away from the robot radiating barely contained frustration and strode toward the spaceship, his cloak flicking behind him like a silent declaration of victory.
